    Rtd

Wanted some more info on the RTD since there is nothing on the website. How does one get access to the software that writes tunes to them? Can they hold more than 1 tune? Does the customer need a laptop to load and switch tunes or could a smart phone or tablet be used?

you'd access the software through the company that sold the interface and a laptop must be used to load & switch tunes.
It doesn't have to be perfect, it just needs to be done in two weeks...

Im curious if we can modify the RTD supplied tune?

I have an 18 chevy colado with my TCM unlocked. I have credits paid for and the ecm and tcm tuned using my mvpi2

Edelbrock has a supercharger for the truck and it uses a RTD. I have changed my differential gears and am running larger tires. The TCM is tuned to allow safer running of the larger tires at the expense of adding firmer shifts and more aggressive shift points. It also solves the torque converter open close open close open close issue.

I am curious if I get the supercharger kit with the RTD pieces, will it mess with my licensing of my ecu and tcm? After I upload the RTD tune by edelbrock, can I then adjust the tire and gear wzard and add my tcm tune to it?

Im fine keeping their tuning for the ecu and supercharger. At best I may log it to just make sure everything is safe when hammering trails, and may detune it a little if knocking etc is found.

I was able to read/edit/rewrite a cal from Magnuson that came with an RTD tool recently. However, I hear that some you cannot. Ford is one of them, so I am told, they run a custom OS # that the VCM Scanner/Editor will not recognize, therefore you cannot open/save/edit it.

I would contact Edelbrock and see what they say.

Otherwise, all the RTD really does is just allow the end user to load the supplied program with a stripped down version of HP Tuners you install on a laptop. I just switched over to the normal editor, switched over to my MPVI2 and performed a read, then off I went.

Wouldn't work if the OS is custom or not recognized though.

Yeah. I sent a ticket to HP tuner and ask them and they said they were not sure if after using the RTD it would delete or erase all of my credits and licensing.

Edelbrock Went from being really helpful to not helpful at all between the time I spoke to them two months ago and when I spoke to them last week. Their answer was by the tuner kit do you not use the tune and get a custom tuned.

I asked them if I could submit to them my transmission tune and my gear entire info and they could even just update the RTD and I would use that. But they said no. I may p.m. you and ask you some more questions in detail but I?m juggling my two kids right now

I mean it makes sense, the whole purpose is to be able to lock down the tune to keep everything within their designed limits, and in some cases they offer a powertrain warranty as well with their kits. Hard to keep that in place when people can modify at will after the fact, then the burden is on them to prove the modifications in a warranty claim scenario.

I am sure they are stuck supplying CARB compliant tunes as well, so therefore it's highly doubtful they would supply any type of tune other than what is already pre-engineered with their kits, and is also probably why they went from super helpful, to nothing recently with all the EPA crackdowns going on with non compliant tune suppliers.

I suppose if it were me in that scenario, have a backup plan to use if you cannot read the tune after it is flashed with the supplied RTD. You can always go back to stock with the RTD tool, then start tuning from there on the OEM stock tune as if it were a tuner kit. I agree however, much easier to work with a good supplied tune in the beginning, which is exactly what I had to do with the Magnuson kit I recently did.

Have you tried to read and write with the regular editor using the rtd tool instead of the mpvi2, just curious of that

I did not for fear of causing an issue.....as I had read the RTD tool would not work like that. Interestingly enough it shows in my devices list with it's own serial number

This is the only information I've found on the HP RTD. I was curious do any of you know this. I have the RTD that came with a tune when I purchased a supercharger for my vehicle but now I'm wanting to change tunes but I'm currently cross country from my tune guy but he offered to write me a tune and send it after quite a few data logging sessions is it possible to upload that new tune to the RTD and then upload it to the vehicle?

You should have no issues getting and flashing a new .rtd file to your vehicle from a different tuner. Just keep in mind RTD interfaces can only flash rtd files using the RTD flashing software, they cannot flash .hpt files nor can they use the VCM editor software as the flashing medium.

Do you know the software program name to download that will allow me to upload the rtd file tune onto the rtd device.
And also if you dont mind do you have a step by step process of how to actually upload to the vehicle after the tune is placed on the rtd

it is called the RTD flasher software, you open the file in the RTD flasher software and click the write vehicle icon.

I would highly recommend opening a support ticket for one on one assistance with your issue.

More likely the drivers didn't install properly. I had several issues with this. First I had to reinstall the drivers on my PC, then it still wouldn't gather info until I connected to wifi while connected to the car and under the help menuI had to select resync interface. Hope this helps.

Has anyone run into the issue where you purchase tuning credits, export the file and email to the customer only for them to be told they need to buy additional credits to sync with their RTD?

Here is my experience with RTD lately. I have a vehicle custom tuned using RTD. Tuner requested to download the stock file from vehicle using the RTD device and send it to them. Downloaded stock file in .rtd format and send it to tuner. Tuner replied with a base custom tune in .rtd format to be loaded to the vehicle using RTD software Flash (write complete). Vehicle started right up with no issues and started data logging using VCM Scanner as per tuner's instruction.

A few days later I received my MPVI2 which I purchased for personal use because I got interested in tuning and as my past time hobby. I decided to use this vehicle where tuning is still in progress. I wanted to bring the car back to stock tune (using RTD) so that I can download the file through MPVI2 and build it from there using the HPT. When I tried doing the Flash (write) of the stock .rtd file, it prompted me to get some credits. So I said to myself, well OK, maybe because the only licensed file was the one that the tuner sent me. So I bought 2 credits to license the stock file so that I can Flash (write) it back to the vehicle. So after checking the RTD info for credits, I proceed to do a "write entire" and noticed the progress bar not going anywhere until a "unlicensed vehicle" message popped out. Then that was it, I tried it a couple of times and no go and it used up my 2 credits.

I double checked the RTD info and could see the 2 additional credits were been used up already. The thing that I noticed though under the Vehicle Info section of the RTD, there were 2 vehicles that were listed with the same VIN but with 2 different OS's. One of them has the stock OS which I think was the one that I just recently licensed but failed to write, and the second one has the same OS but with a dot extension ( .XXX) which I believed was the base file that the tuner sent me to start with. My question though is how did the base file was able to write over the ECU using an altered OS and I failed to write over the original OS over the altered one?

HPT fixed it for me. I opened a case with them and got a reply within a day. It was necessary to have to buy the 2 credits for my stock OS because the OS that came from my tuner is different. They walked me through with my issue of not able to download my stock OS even if I already had it licensed. If I remember it right, they had me delete some files on the HP Tuners>Setting folder and then resync the interface.
