Segment Swap 2004 P59 5.3L Ecm with 8.1L file from tune repository

Hi eveyrone. I have a harness and ECM from an 8.1L. Finished modifying the harness to find the ECM is no good. I have a spare P59 ECM from an 04 Yukon with 5.3L. This engine combo is going into a 69, so no electronic gauges or anything to worry about working. I am wanting to take a stock 8.1L file from the repository and segment swap it into the 5.3L ECM. Is this likely to work, or am I going to have to write the whole file? I would like to avoid that as it would double my licensing cost.

    Thank you.

If you found a 2004 8.1 file with the same OS as the 5.3 file, then the segment swap should work.

Or you could have a dealership flash the computer with the OS you want to run, then just license that file.

Side question here though. What year and computer was the 8.1 from? Because that needs to be taken into account for what file you can use as the DBW stuff can be fussy with the wrong files/parts.
2016 Silverado CCSB 5.3/6L80e, not as slow but still heavy.

If you don't post your tune and logs when you have questions you aren't helping yourself.

Thanks for the reply. The 8.1 came out of an 05, adn the 5.3 ecm came out of an 04. Its going to be DBW.

Okay. So if the 2004 and 2005 8.1 trucks use the same part numbers for the throttle pedal assembly and the TAC module then I could see doing the segment swap on the 2004 computer possibly working out.

The OS's are the same. I hadn't considered seeing if the 04 and 05 8.1 used the same pedal and tac numbers. I'll cehck that.

    Thanks alot for your input.

I have a stock 2005 8.1 Allison tune file if you need one. 05 was a year that they changed the TAC and they changed it again in 06. Some 04s got the upgraded TAC though. Let me know if you want the stock tune and I can upload it here and you can write entire.
