2013 Gt misfire after turbo kit install

Hey all, I'm hoping for some help. So I recently put an on3 twin turbo kit on my 2013 mustang gt. While working with the remote tuner, VMP, I started to have some misfire problems seemingly at random times. I've had it happen while cruising at a specific rpm for maybe 15 seconds and then as soon as i go WOT it throws the misfire code and bucks and the air fuel gauge built into the car reads super lean. After 30 seconds to a minute or so the flashing check engine light stops and the car is good to drive normally again. It can do WOT just fine and I've had the misfire detected on startup code once or twice. The tuner says he can see the car going open loop and the widebands dropping out intermittently when it does it however i just replaced them when I installed the turbo kit. The codes show random misfire and some specific cylinders. We are both at a bit of a loss as to why it is misfiring in the way it is or at least throwing the code that it is. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

seeing how its load dependent, and going lean when it misfires, i would say get another set of plugs and start there. are you running the proper heat range of plug?

I don't remember the exact numbers but it is a brisk boost set of plugs gapped to .026. I just find it weird that after the code goes away it runs fine again and how it has also misfired on startup before.

Ok so I have an update, did some more testing and in 2nd gear, starting at 2500 I would slowly go up in rpms and it would misfire around 4 to 5k. I was able to make it do this multiple times. Once also when I got to 2500 in third and then WOT it missed as well but I was only able to make it do that once, as many times as I did the same thing I couldn't get it to repeat.

Misfire monitor+turbo - pretty much useless.

If this happens randomly check your engine first - compression and leakdown. It might be your cracked ringland.

coyote engines are also famous for pounding the valves into the seat. this will give a high rpm misfire, but usually does not affect fuel trims

I had some random misfires on a whipple car at transitions through the .9-1.1 load areas. I had to adjust the driver demand tables for 3rd and 4th gears in the ranges effected to ensure car also was going into Power enrichment when torque requests were effectively requesting higher loads. My engine would not fall on its face but it would have a temporary random misfire codes as combustion stability was poor until I ensured PE / WOT and OP settings were squared away.

This was due to my inexperience initially by not understanding the effects these all have on how the engine runs. I had been too aggressive on tweaking pedal feel and not paying attention.

They changed the valve during 2013 for this reason so the 2014+ should be OK.
Knock Retard is the reduction or prevention of knock by lowering ignition timing:

(+) Adding Knock Retard = Reducing Timing. PCM is seeing knock.
(--) Lowering Knock Retard = Increasing Timing. PCM isn't seeing knock.

You mean you've repaired them? I don't know what month the discovery was made but it was during 2013 so I guess it's possible early 2014s could be affected too I suppose. Mine is a late 2014.. I hope I don't have this issue down the line!

Is it a result of super high rpms because I'm not going over 7k
