Is it still possible to Save and Keep an Older Version of the Editor?

Hi, kind of going back to the old 2.24 days when we could rename, save and still keep an older verion of the editor here. I tried to rename and save a particular version of beta that I was hoping to keep and it wouldn't allow me to do so - still deleted it off even with the file renamed - I even went as far as trying to restore the computer back to before I updated and it wouldn't reload the deleted db files that are required for the table definitions... Anyway I was just wondering if it's still possible to move things around to where you can keep older versions just incase something happened in a newer version? If it is - what may be the steps to do so?

Also looking for beta 1301 if anyone's got it - was only available for a day...

You're talking about archived copies of the downloaded installer, right?

Is this some brilliant new "feature" they decided to try or something you've had happening for a while? I always save the DL to a temp folder, rename with the version number, then move to the HPT archive folder, never had one try to overwrite anything yet doing it that way (knocks on wood).

Are you talking about renaming the folder to have multiple instances of different versions installed?
    What version of Windows?

I am currently running on my task bar latest beta, 4.2, 4.0, 2.24 all side by side without issue, i do have the last of each version currently installed. 2.24, 3.0, 3.1, 3.2, all the way through current beta. Something like 17 or 18 different versions all installed and ready to be used.

How? Installing 4.4.2 or 4.4.4 deletes any previous installed versions when I try it, even if both the existing & new version are installed to non-default folders (i.e., 4.4.2 installed to 'HP Tuners\VCM Suite 4.4.2', installing 4.4.4 to 'HP Tuners\VCM Suite 4.4.4' completely deletes the 4.4.2's entire folder tree).

Rename the install folder of the old version before you install the new version.
You then need to make a shortcut to the old version.
    Both will work.

Nope. It deletes the folder containing the previous version, without asking. I have watched it happen in the Explorer window during the install. Poof, gone.

edit: And when I tried renaming the old folder after install to 'hide' it from the new version, the old Editor would open but hang forever when trying to open a file.

Perhaps I'm remembering it wrong. I haven't done it in a while.
Maybe its the newer versions that won't work, I don't know.
There was a thread on how to do it some time ago.
Maybe I'll give it a try again.

Well, that doesn't work for me. Renaming the folder with either 4.4.2 or 4.4.4, after install, the Editor opens like normal but hangs when opening any tune file. Some registry hook is still looking for the old folder I assumed. I haven't tried it with anything older than 4.4.2.

I just tried this on a clean Win7 machine.
I installed 4.4.2 then renamed the VCM Suite folder in C:\Program Filesx86 to VCM Suite 4.4.2.
    Then I installed 4.4.4.
I opened the 4.4.2 folder and ran the editor.
    Help/About showed version 4.4.2.
When I ran the 4.4.4 editor it also showed the correct version of 4.4.4.

Maybe something wrong with your machine?
Did you install to a non-default location?

See, I had the same problem blindsquirrel did. Rename the file and even trying to open from the renamed file, it won't - eventually tells you failed to load definitions and to attach mpvi. Change the file name back to original and THEN it will open the tune files... Also on mine changing the file name - it still deleted it - However --- I only changed the "beta" file to a different name and not the core file name where beta and regular are both stored - haven't tried changing the hp tuners file name to something different... I have windows 7 Pro if it makes a difference?
