    03-04 Mustang Tuning - Don't Bother - Super Charged 4.6

Currently not real impressed with the ability to tune the 03-04 Mustangs. The scanner is so bogged down it can't possibly be in the correct cell. Very limited channel selection and several needed to create graphs seem unavailable. The TPS sensor will read 0 to 100 with the car off and scanning, but will only read in the 23 percent range at WOT. The display on my WB showed it going lean but the and the log file shows it rich. The Dyno RPM showed 4500 when I lifted, but the scan only shows 3500. I can't make heads or tails of where the commanded Lambda is coming from. I have The Tuning School manual for Fords and have successfully tuned a 2005. I was told these could be tuned by using the Beta Version and having it reflashed at the dealer so that I could read it. (Was SCT). I had to have it towed to the dealer and it cost $140 at the dealer. Add in the tow and credits and I nearly have $400 to just get started. There seems to be no interest in these vehicles due to the lack of response to my other thread. Do yourself a favor and install a Holley EFI system. Somebody prove me wrong if you can!

Datalogging is definitely an issue. In another post Eric from hptuners is looking for someone in the Chicago area willing to lend their car for testing to resolve the issue with eecv. I have a feeling it has something to do with scp network causing issues. Theres both j1850 bus wires plus the scp bus wire

Provided they have enough parameters defined to tune it you could wait however long for them to fix the scanner or just buy a locked x3 from eBay and datalog with livelink. I know it's money you shouldn't have to spend but they can be found for around $50.00 bucks.

Right now the only way to properly tune using hpt on these is to flash with the mpvi2, and datalog with the mpvi1. Its not ideal, but ive tuned many using hpt. I used quarterhorse/be/tunerpro in the past, and trust me, this is leaps and bounds above that. Its not perfect yet, but there really hasnt been anything ideal aside from sct with these to date,, but they had a 15 year head start

I appreciate the responses. I have flashed this thing probably 100 times (very slowly I might add), just trying to nail down some of the things I am seeing, like why is the commanded EQ ratio commanding lean? Like 1.08 Lamba at light throttle. I have flat lined tables and zeroed adders for both commanded EQ ratio and timing and magic values seem to appear. I have a ragged light throttle acceleration problem and the AFR looks ok, but the timing is jumping between 20 degrees and negative values. Tomorrow I am going to measure the voltage while scanning with the engine off and at 20 percent throttle and then start the engine and see if the voltage changes at 20 percent. The TPS reading 20 percent at WOT doesn't make sense. I guess that will tell me if it is the sensor/wiring issue or the scanner. Any advise is appreciated. The attached log file was of a dyno pull to 4500 dyno and 3500 scanner. 400 HP at 5 or 6 lbs of boost.

Are you logging with the mpvi 1, or 2, read my post above, if your logging with the 2, you might as well throw all that info away, its useless

My MPVI1 shot craps and was exchanged for this one. I'm not sure how much better I like the MPVI2. It seems to have more lock ups. Looks like I need to pick up another MPVI1. Not sure how many of these I want to do. There is no way to charge for the amount of time I have in this and honestly I am considering just eating the $400 plus my time and sending it down the road.

I'm really surprised that hpt isnt jumping all over this. Eecv comes up quite often in these threads. People are all over new edge mustangs right now. They could be pissing away alot of business imo

Ive tuned several hundred EEC-Vs using a moates quarterhorse with tunerpro. For any 03-04 mustang specifically money simply cannot buy anything better than a quarterhorse to tune them using tunerpro which is free. There is nothing else even remotely close on the market. SCT is severely lacking for the eec-v once you see just how much more powerful tunerpro and the qh is. And being able to realtime tune using the quarterhorse as well as the super fast datalogging would make you never want to tune anything else besides the older ford eec's.

go to my website and you can download everything you need now for free and even download a base tune to get you started. FBGI0 is the strategy you want to use for all 03/04 mustangs.

If you get fed up and just want the car to run perfect give me a shout.

Using the MPVI 2. I appreciate the input. I plan to see if I can find an MPVI1. Thanks.

I use SCT for the 03-04 Cobras, I am able to do everything that's needed to be done. I am not not going to Bash any other competitors software. i been tuning with SCT since 2006 it was the Leader in EEC IV/V pcm's research will show that. what ever you chose i am sure you will get your car squared away.

Yeah his page has a wealth of knowledge on there! Its definitely one of the go to pages for eec-v, I've contemplated the quarter horse. The only draw back to the quarter horse is the battery on the board. Which ultimately steered me away from it. But for those who dont mind, its definitely a good option. And the ability to tune on the fly is a huge perk

I picked up a used MPVI1 and will be giving this car a shot in a few days. I'm not sure how many of these will be in my future and HPTuners is what I know, so I figured it was worth a shot. I will report back with an update.

Ok, I have tried the MPVI1 that I purchased used for $400. It will not connect. I am getting "Validate cable licenses failed error F0". I reached out to Eric @ HpTuners and he says I need to send the unit in for testing. I had a couple of questions and now he seems to have disappeared off the planet and there has been no response from support for 3 days. Needless to say this is an $800 worm hole I wish I would have never gone down. If I know the MPVI1 is bad I would reach out to the seller for a refund. I am not sure that is the case. I have swapped cables and PC's with no luck. Anyone have any suggestions? I think HP knows more than they are saying and they are trying to rid the planet of MPVI1's. My only reason for buying this one was to try to tune a car that HPTuners says is tuneable using the MPVI2. Which everyone here seems to agree the scanner has issues.

I purchased a MPVI1 and am not having any luck. What version of the scanner are you using with it? I have tried both 2.24 and 4.4 and 4.4 beta on the 04 mustang and a GM vehicle that I have not connection issues with using the MVPI2.
