I'm starting to work on tuning my 8.1 Liter on my Avalanche now. May take a while to figure things out. Not many doing it.

I am working on my dads 8.1. It has a huge dead spot in the mid range and he is wanting me to fix it. Lets all keep in touch and see if we can figure this thing out.

I too would like to see what gains you are getting from the 8.1. I have an 02 avalanche with the 8.1 but I have not received my software yet. Cant wait to play with it.

Something that is never discussed here on tweaking truck tunes is what octane fuel you are willing to run. You have to understand that the stock tunes on trucks are for 87 octane gas which means low timing. More power is going to come with higher timing, but you need higher octane fuel to support that. The first question I ask my truck customers when they ask for more power is what octane gas are you willing to run.

So far I have been able to get 2 more mpg and better responce out of my dads 8.1 with Russ's PE settings and some other small tweaks.

I would like to stay on 87. More power is nice but I more interested in mpg being that i tow a 9000lb camper.

I get more mpg running 91 over 87 on a stock tune, usually 2mpg. So I go further per tank, fill up less often. Granted it costs 20 cents per gallon more at the pump, but it is cheaper per month for me to run 91. And, you will get way better towing performance on 91, better mpg too when you are putting 9000lb behind it. Just my opinion on experiance with a gas guzzlin 8.1.

Well I made a load of changes. Now just have to monitor it and see where things are. I didn't change the timing table but I'm thinking about doing that next to see what's possible.
