Whats the rear gear? Whats the converter stall speed?
Gutless 5.3 + 3.06 first gear will feel alot stronger SOTP than a 5.3 with a 2.48 first gear.
My old 350 Vortec making 310 tq at the wheels felt noticeably weaker taking off from a stop with the 4L85E swapped in it. That being said it was not any slower in the 1/8 mile running down the track before and after. That was in a 6,200 lbs brick on wheels with 3.42 gears at the time. The 4L60E had a 1,600 rpm converter and the stock 4L85E converter was 2,400 rpm stall speed. The 4L80E had more stall speed, more MPH in 1st gear and a better 1-2 gear spacing and made up for the slightly less torquey feel a little further down the road. After the swap I added an air intake, headers, high flow cats, muffler swap, underdrive pulley and e-fans. After the bolt ons it never felt sluggish compared to the 4L60E to me.

Wasn't fast but none the less moved really well for a sub 300 HP engine in a heavy box with no rear gear.
