    Pro Link CAN bus protocols

    Can anyone provide a list of devices supported by the Pro Link CAN bus and Pro Feature set? In particular I would like to know if AEMnet devices are supported. For instance, can I connect an AEM 30-0300 wideband sensor via the Pro Link CAN bus (not analog inputs). In addition, will sensors on the Pro Link CAN bus be logged when connected to a car that doesn't have CAN bus on the OBDII port?

    I received this reply from HP Tuners technical support:

    I have confirmed with engineering that can bus support for ProLink with ProFeatures will work with that AEM WB controller.

    I was also told by Chad that engineering is pretty quick about implementing support for devices on the CAN bus. This is a good sign. It looks to me like updates to the PC software are pretty active and timely. The problem seems to be with releasing updates to the MPVI2 firmware to implement the promised Pro Feature set.

    I have tested multiple 30-0300s connected to the ProLink, via CAN, with the latest version of the scanner. This does not require that the vehicle have a CAN based ECU.
    This, also, works with the 30-0310.

    It does NOT work with the 30-0334. The 30-0334 CAN interface connects to the OBDII port, not the ProLink. And, it does require the vehicle have a CAN based ECU.

    Weeeellll.... yes and no.... it can connect to the pro link with minor surgery. I Purchased the MPVI2 right when it came out along with the only WB that worked with it at the time. The AEM 30-0334. Excited like a kid at chritmas with shinny new toy that all the other kids wanted but i got it first..... and a couple of customers in the 30-0334 CAN would not work for older OBDII cars. I was PISSED so i got to work and ran it thru with my Prolink that had came out by this time and yes you have to purchase the Pro Feature Set from HPT. Also i know i could have ran it thru my Serial Port on the laptop but i wanted it all to run thru the MPVI2. This is me after work one night at the house in my little daddy hide away going thru the process.

    Yes. You can mod the 30-0334 harness to use the analog output signals, just like a 30-0300. The Analog signals from the 30-0300 / 30-0334 / 30-0310 are actually really good. I have seen people run the analog signal traces, simultaneously, in the same graph with the OBDII CAN signal; and, the traces, pretty much, overlay each other, right up to the analog lean limit of Lambda 1.22 / 18afr .

    If you already have the ProLink, order the 30-0300, rather than the 30-0334. It's a few $$$ cheaper anyway. It has all of the wires in the harness populated. So, you can use the AEMNet CAN or the analog outputs. Although, there is no good reason to use the analog signals, if you can use the CAN interface,

    If you want, I can FLASH your 30-0334 back to being a 30-0300; so, you could use the ProLink CAN interface on any vehicle.

    People sometimes get confused, since they are both CAN based. Why can't I connect the 30-0334 CAN wires to the ProLink? Or.. why can't I connect the 30-0300 CAN wires to the OBDII port CAN pins? It's because OBDII CAN and AEMNet CAN are two different languages on the same hardware. That's why 30-0300's can be re-FLASHed to work with the OBDII port. Different firmware = different protocol/language. It's like, you can call Romania on your phone. But, good luck communicating. But, the phone still works, as far as the phone is concerned.

    I agree with everything that dr.mike is putting out there. I was just adding for those people that got a good deal on or is stuck with the AEM 30-0334 you have option and are not stuck using the OBDII port if you don't want to. It can be converted.

    what do i need to flash it back, to 30-0310, I bought a 30-0334 from hp tuners, found out quickly how its not as useful and limited to can bus vehicles, even some can bus equip vehicles it will not work on. I tried wiring it to can high and low and testing it in pro link and as you said it does not function. But I would much rather use can bus, vs analog outputs, not having to calibrate sensor ground reference is a time saver.

    I don't charge for the re-FLASH. Just send it with a pre-paid return shipping label; and, a note with your forum names and which firmware you want.

    Hey Dr Mike I have the 30-0334 AEM wideband and I have wondered why I cannot log anything under AEM in my scanner, I always have to use the general SAE air fuel ratio pid. I have tried different pids in my wideband and to no avail, still does not work. I am trying to hook it up with my Pro Link harness and a serial connector but cannot find any schematics on this. Anybody got anything on this. Also Dr Mike I will gladly participate in your beer fund if you can recalibrate my wideband to work with the CAN. Please tell me where to send it (Send in private message). Also how do you recalibrate this wideband I have only the book that came with it and can't get a hold of anyone at AEM. Thanks in advance

    The 30-0300 and 30-0334 use two different protocols.

    The 30-0300 uses AEMNet protocol. It can be read by the ProLink CAN inputs. And the data shows up in the AEM section.

    The 30-0334 uses OBD2 protocol. It kinda "joins" the group of ECUs ( PCM, TCM, BCM, etc. ) in the vehicle. That's why the data show up as the general SAE air-fuel ratio. The MVPI scanner thinks it is part of the vehicle. The same way it would, if the vehicle had a built-in wideband, from the factory.

    I would avoid the serial interface, if possible.

    If you want to use the 30-0334 with the ProLink, it needs to be re-flashed back to 30-300 AEMNet protocol.

    I am new here, I just received my AEM 30-300 and Pro Link+ I have the VCMI3. What is CAN, I do not see any wires on the 30-300 labeled as such. Any help in getting this wiring sorted out will be greatly appreciated.
