    Lexus IS300 support?

Hi all. A shot in the dark, but has anyone inquired about tuning support for the 2001-05 IS300 models? The 2JZ engine is a very popular tuning platform and with different turbo/upgrades it would be nice to tweak the factory ecu instead of using a standalone. Just a thought.

This is basically impossible. The Toyota ECU's prior to 2005 cannot be practically read or wrote. They employ a Toshiba CPU where the memory is basically write-once. The content is heavily encrypted. The instruction set is unknown. Forget it. Starting in 2005, Toyota had to comply with the J2534 standard mandated by the EPA, our same friends who mandated the OBD2 standard and many other innovations like for example the catalytic converter and the PCV system. Ha ha ha ha ha. Anyway the J2534 EPA standard states the the ECU must be field-programmable (this means flashable in the shop not the factory) and the manufacturer must provide the tools to do it (initially this was Techstream and Calibration Update Wizard). Since then these features that were proprietary have been either cracked or stolen or possibly licensed by others. This is why we are here, and not wallowing in total ignorance - only partial. But the pre-2005 ECU's remain a very dark secret.

PS> Just for levity, note in the us it is a federal crime to tamper the ECU for a road-going vehicle as this impacts emissions compliance which is federally mandated. In the eu this is probably a capital offense. Ha ha. Ha ha ha ha.
