    Need Fresh'n Clean Start

I have a 2011 Jeep Wrangler with a 6.2 L86 motor (swap done by someone else).
I purchased the Jeep with the swap completed... with issues.
I took the Jeep to two different people to help with a tune. One did virtually nothing and the other was critical of the previous tune.
Then the L86 blew up. I found out the previous owner knew about the issues but did not disclose. Might have been a wrong cam or other improper parts.
I now have a new L86 (2017 motor) with complete DOD delete kit. Reputable shop.
I am extremely scared and now at a point where I am concerned the tune is a complete mutt and a huge Frankenstein mess.
I have purchased HPTuner and license to tune the L86.
I have some minor tuning background and a huge desire to learn.

I want a fresh clean start.
Is this a stupid approach? Is it better to keep working with the tune that currently has the jeep running and driving?

    How does it run?
    • Shifts fine. Cruises fine. Lack of power at certain points (produces about 320 RWHP with 40" tires on the dyno).
    • Idle surges when in Park and in gear and at low speed.
    • Idle surges crazy when A/C is turned on. It will actually die periodically while idling with A/C on.
    • Mileage is horrible (but that could be the 40's and gearing - it is at 2,400 RPM at 75 mph).

I would love some thoughts from this group of knowledgeable people.

File is from a 2014 Silverado. Go to the tune repository and download a stock file to compare.

Are you looking to fix the tune yourself or hire a tuner?

I would like to take a stab at it... become horribly frustrated... then hire someone and think they are a god. HA!

Joking aside, I would like to work on it myself and learn along the way. I don't mind paying someone but I have become a bit hesitant as it seems like everyone gets paid a little money and they fall off the radar. It is almost strange. Maybe tuners are just wicked busy and my project sucks.

What did you replace the old cam with?

Then it seems like you really just need to work on your idle and low speeds. There are a few around here that would be willing to help. You still want to find a stock ECU file for the same year Silverado with the same engine so that you can compare what someone has changed. Same for anyone that wants to help you. Datalogs of the issues would also help.

A "Texas Speed" Stage One cam.
Also, all new lifters and pushrods as part of a full DOD delete.

I downloaded a tune and I am doing the comparison. I am taking notes to summarize.
I will also do some datalogs.

Attached is a comparison of my current tune and the stock tune. This is the "idle" tab with all changes shown.

I'm not sure if this is weird but my ECU is flashed with a 2014 Silverado 6.2 l86. My engine is from a 2017 Silverado 6.2 l86.

Your external load and speed control reserve seems high, I normally have to lower them. Get those back stock along with everything on the idle rpm page. Then see how it acts and report back. Post a log if possible.

I edited my signature to include my setup. I will upload a data log.
