Flex Fuel Sensor reading 179Hz _ Fuel Contamination?

    Hi Guys,
I am looking for help with a flex fuel sensor issue. I enabled [flex fuel] and my flex [fuel sensor] in my E67 controller for my LSA engine for the first time. The car has 92 octane gasoline in the tank. With the key on, engine off, the scanner shows [Ethanol Fuel % (SAE)] at 100% and [Fuel Composition Sensor] at 179Hz. The car will flood if I try to start it with the Ethanol Fuel at 100%.

I understand the Conti sensor outputs >170Hz if the fuel is contaminated... however I am unclear how the fuel can be contaminated as I have less than 50 miles on the car (new car build). I confirmed the sensor is pinned correctly (Pin1-Vcc; Pin2-Grd; Pin3-Vout).

I'd like input if you have experience with the sensor outputting >170Hz frequency. Should I replace the sensor?
    Thanks!

More than likely you didnt pin the sensor correctly. What is the default set too?

Thanks for the feedback! The default frequency is set to 65Hz (15% ethanol). If the sensor was not reading properly and went into default mode, I would expect it would be set to the 65Hz.... but it is stuck at 100% Ethanol and 179Hz.

Here is a pic of the pinout that I used for the sensor.

If the sensor reads 179Hz, it suggests to me the E67 is reading a PWM signal from the sensor. I would like to know if the sensor will come out of this mode eventually or if the sensor needs to be replaced.

What pin did you pin it to in the e67 computer? That is what i'm asking.

    LSandlteditor, thanks for the help!

The sensor out goes to pin 5 in the blue connector. I am positive it is connected properly because when I have the Key On Engine Off, the scanner shows the 179Hz (& 100% ethanol) but when I physically disconnect the sensor's connector, the scanner shows 0Hz (0% ethanol).

Do you know if the sensor needs to be replaced or is there another issue?

    Thanks!

if the sensor is truly reading 179hz, and the pinout at the sensor itself is correct, I would suggest the sensor itself is toast.

Guys, Thank for the help! I replaced the ethanol sensor. The new sensor works well and shows 10% ethanol (which is what I expect for pump gas).
