2016 Ford F150 With Aftermarket Cams

Hey guys I just put together a 2016 F150 with a set of cams that use the mustang firing order, I am now looking to figure out how to change the firing order as well as the injector firing order in the tune if that is possible? I have searched around a bit and seem to keep finding conflicting information on what needs to be done to make this work, some guys saying I need to re-pin the wiring to match that of the Mustang while other people are saying it can be done in the tune however none of them seem to have actually done the work. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

The Truck itself is a 2016 F150 5.0 with a Roush stage 2 supercharged setup, it's pulleyed for around 14-16psi, Manley rods and Pistons 9.5:1, and has a set of fairly mild blower cams .516/.514 227/233 @.050 123* LSA, 72lb injectors, its converted to a return style fuel system that overkill with 2 Walbro 450's in the tank, and is backed by a 6R80 with a Circle D converter, TCS billet intermediate, Exedy clutches, and a few other small bits that our trans builder recommended.

This sounds like what my truck wants to be. lol.

I think you just need to re-wire the injectors and coils around to match the mustang firing order and you're good but that could be wrong so don't quote me. I just wanted to say I'm jealous of the build.

I am thinking that is what I am going to have to do, at this point I am on the hunt for a 2016 Mustang GT ECU pin out, as well as a pin out for the 2016 F150.

We have found the pinout information we needed and are mid way through swapping locations now, if this works we will post the pin info to save others the hassle of finding the info.

Here are the pin locations for both the Coils and Injectors on a 2016 F150 5.0 vs a 2016 Mustang GT these locations should be the same for 2015-2017 model years, after we re-pinned the harness and added in the mustangs cam tables the truck fired right up without any issue.

It's my belief that the table defined for spark is also used for the injectors. Logically it would make sense as well.

You should have been able to change it in the tune if the cams are correct for the new intended firing order and have it crank right up. Re-wiring is another way to do it
Knock Retard is the reduction or prevention of knock by lowering ignition timing:

(+) Adding Knock Retard = Reducing Timing. PCM is seeing knock.
(--) Lowering Knock Retard = Increasing Timing. PCM isn't seeing knock.

I think you have to re-wire. The firing order in the tune is for diagnostics. IE Cylinder #1 misfire ect..

K44 is Correct, that table is only for DTC's we did try it tho as a few people where convinced it would work and hell we like to science.

I'm new here, but I was just wondering this the other day, as I have a 2015 F-150 5.0 and factory F-150 ECM, that I bought to coyote swap my Mustang. I wanted to put Mustang cams in it, and I wondered if you could change firing order in the VCM editor. So, just to confirm, I gather from this that I will have to just repin the F-150 harness injectors and coils to the pins listed above, and then the ECM won't know any different???

Some claim that this is a hardware difference between F150 and Mustang PCM. Some say it's just an OS.

On gen 1 2014 and earlier, the mustang and truck firing order is the same.

On gen 2 you need to rewire the coils and injectors.

Under the spark tab cant you just change the tab Firing order vs cylinder number to get the correct firing order?

All that is for is the mis-fire test it doesn't actually change the order, you do unfortunately have to re=pin to get it going as we eventually ended up doing. Total time spent was about 30 minutes.

You also do need to change the exhaust cam phaser (all the rest of the timing components are the same) at minimum on the Gen2 15-17 F150 motors to the Mustang part number FR3Z6C525B when doing a Mustang Cam/Firing order swap as the main chain timing mark is a little shy of 180* out. Honestly speaking just buying Ford performance part number M-6004-A5015 is the best option for the swap as it includes all the new timing parts you need features the GT350 low leak phasers and upgraded timing chains aswell as a billet lower main timing gear. Wish I had of just done that right off the hop instead of piecing it all together.
