In vcm scanner cylinders are named by number. Is there rational behind the numbering system?

From testing on my truck I determined that the hp tuner numbering system does not match the manufacturer numbering convention (or atleast in my case).

Is it possibly firing order? Something else? Random?

The reason for asking is I need to turn off injectors 1 by 1 to isolate a sound. Knowing which injwctor is getting shut off when I turn it off in vcm scanner is crucial for me to diagnose.
