Ford 4.0 swap 5.0 Need to correct VIN for emissions

I was referred to this site after I was told Ford IDS wasn't capable of my project. Problem:

2010 Mustang originally was 4.0 manual transmission PCM/engine/trans are from a donor 5.0/automatic transmission, car runs perfect, no trouble codes. VIN still reads donor PCM/engine; Can the VIN the modified? is a new PCM/BCM required? I am new to PCM re-flashing and such I have a background in some eeprom and re-flashing for PATS systems and other domestic and foreign security system paring. Thanks in advance.

I wrote my VIN with IDS. I suspect that the Ford tech just didn't know how to do it. (it isn't a straight forward module PMI)
Forscan has the ability now to write VIN to SOME PCMs. The option is there for my '13 PCM, but I have not tried it as I already have my 07 VIN programmed.

Thank you, did it only write the VIN or did it reflash the entire PCM data? My concern as told to me by a PCM specialist was dropping in the v6 VIN would automatically load the wrong PCM data associated with that factory vin and now my v8 PCM would no crank.

He is partially correct. I made several attempts before I got the VIN to take. And I did not care if the OS was getting loaded as I had my custom tune ready to go. I actually edited a custom .ab file and somehow got IDS to accept it or get passed it needing the file. I messed with this over 3 years ago. lol
I would say for you, Forscan and a USB ELM327 adapter is what you need. Programming the VID block that way will not overwrite the OS. I don't recommend WIFI or Bluetooth ELM for programming. Some of the adapter just plain suck and programming will fail. The WIRED USB one works solid and it is a lot faster than my wireless ELMs.

TY I just ordered a forscan elm327 USB tool cannot believe this thing was $17.00 USD that will work on a newer ford. Do you know anyone who has a walk -thru or I can pay to run the software on my laptop like team-viewer with a more competent tech than myself? %90 of what I do is the most basic of flashing immobilizer systems I've only done a couple of parameter resets on fords before.

It is not a very difficult process.
Install Forscan on your windows laptop.
Generate a 2 month trial license, and import it into Forscan. Need this for programming. (no license needed for diagnostic functions)
    Connect to vehicle.
Click on the IC chip icon, select PCM, VID programming.
Click the "start" button and follow the instructions on turning key on/off.
Enter your VIN and hit "write".

If you get lost, I can help you with TeamViewer. But it is really straight forward. You will likely need to run Forscan as administrator as W10 has many protections and sometimes blocks programs from running.

Ps: If you got the ELM with HS/MS can switch, you now have the ability to make some option changes on your car. Like enable auto locks, disable TPMS, to name a few.
