So, Apparently there's a newer version for my e40 pcm, if i had the dealership update, would the credits I already spent be wasted or would i be safe doing a write entire back to as found, then having them update it?

It depends on a few things, first I would need to see how your vehicle was licensed.
If you did a year/model license, no you shouldn't need to spend any more credits
If you licensed your ecm by the serial number of the ecm, no you shouldn't need to spend any more credits if they aren't completely replacing your ecm
If you licensed your ecm via vin/os pair, yes you would need to license the new vin/so pair
