Any good scanner-snappy launch etc will do it. Tech2 was discontinued after the 13 model year.

The Chinese MDI clones do work - I have a VCX Nano - but the software setup and config can be a huge pain in the ass. You should be aware before hand that all the software is essentially pirated so there are cracks and patches and workarounds you have to do to fool everything into working. I am using mine only for pre-2009 or whatever the breakpoint is, so only need Tech2Win & the (old, outdated, no longer supported) offline version of TIS2000 for programming, but apparently there is other software that can do programming and diagnostics for the later GDS2-only based stuff.

I use the VCX Nano also. Getting the software installed is INDEED a pain in the ass BUT IT IS WORTH IT. That little thing is a TechII, MDI, and SPS tool all in one! That thing has saved SEVERAL of my customers asses due to tuner error. I recently had to fix someones tune BUT they didnt have a stock file AND they were running a 3 bar OS. I was able to use SPS to pull an updated STOCK OS from GM. I was able to "marry" my ECM and TCM when I replaced the trans in my G8. Helped a buddy out when he had to replace his BCM in his car. Helped someone program new keys in his G8 when he lost ALL OF THE KEYS (Cant do that without SPS).

This little thing is worth ALL OF THE 99 BUCKS I PAID FOR IT. Support from the company is not great because of the language barrier. Outside of that, this little thing is GREAT!

Yes there is, but it requires an interface device to translate PC/Tech2Win-speak to OBD-speak, just like VCM Suite software requires a MPVI.

Yea, I picked up an original MDI off eBay. I had the VCX Nano. It was all hacked SW and buggy as hell so I returned it.
I didn't want to take a chance writing anything with buggy HW/SW. I suppose it will work in a pinch.

Being an IT Techy Tech, I was able to figure their software out. Like I said earlier, their customer service leaves EVERYTHING to be desired. I haven had any issue with my VCX Nano at all. And its saved a few friends asses in the process...

I have a Chineseium Tech2 and have used it on multiple vehicles over the years and it works great. I did have to replace the OBD cable. I think I picked it up on eBay. The case for it is also available and comes in handy. I keep an old Panasonic ToughBook running an ancient version of windows for the TIS2000 software.

If you have aftermarket radio and other stuff, you will encounter some of the same communications issues you see with HPTune devices.

I have Tech2Win but I have been using a Bluetooth OBDII connector from Amazon and a android program called Throttle Reset. Works pretty good and free.

I have never had a tb i could not relaern with hpt
    ever
and ive done thousands, on the tuning side, and part of repairs

the scanner does nothing more than access the "modes" built into the ecm from the factory.

Your likely not meeting all of the criteria needed for the reset. And if thats the case, the tech 2(or tech 2 win, mdi with gds) likely wont either

I can tell you've put in lots of hard work educating yourself on this, so I will help you out!

Scroll down to the bottom, you can get access to the full service manuals just like the dealership techs use. Have fun!
