Purchased Used Corvette and Tune is Locked. Who locked it?

I bought a used C6 Corvette through auction / broker. Scanned the car and the tune is locked and I have no idea who did it. So I bought a new ECU. I had it VIN matched by the reseller. I can scan the ECU but it crashes when it gets to the TCU

I am now assuming the TCU is also part of the tuner lock. TCU is part of the valve body on the 6L80e and looks like about $700, plus disassembling the GD transmission.

Is it possible to find the individual that tuned the car by searching with my VIN#? Doesn?t HPT have that info in a database?

Sounds more like wiring issues/bad modules than anything else
tuner lock is to the ecm, not tcm. If you have issues with coms you need to fix the problems

That's good to know the TCM piece is not in the lock. I re-tried a few scenarios

Original ECM in car, scan fails to read the ECM . No error message, just hangs up, I stopped it after 5 minutes or so.
Original ECM in car, skip the scan of the ECM , and just scan the TCM. It reads the module fine, I can save the file and open it.

Replacement ECM in the car, scans both modules ok, then gives a HP Tuner error message the tune is locked.

My guess now is both the old and new ECM's are locked?

Car will run with either ECM's in the car.

You can't lock an ECM just reading it.

    Punctuation matters.

If the original ECM 1) fails to read with HPTuners and 2) is still functioning perfectly in the car does that indicate it has been tune locked? Was it possibly locked with some other software other than HPTuners?

Is there some other error condition that would trigger the ?tune locked? message on the replacement ECM. There is no reason to tune lock a stock ECM replacement that I can think of.

Could be EFI Live or maybe Tuner Cats that locked it. Impossible to know. People lock their tunes for oddball reasons, none that I agree with. When you get this sorted out, ask your tuner for a file copy of your tune on a thumb drive for future reference - not locked, of course.
