Crank relearn procedure - does it work with HPTuners?

I found a few old threads that said the crank relearn procedure sets off a DTC that can't be cleared, then I thought I read they fixed it, but still see some complaints. Did they fix this feature or should I avoid it?

Is this the same procedure that is needed when the crank position sensor is replaced/removed?
