Question What would require a new license purchase.

Was wondering what would create the need for another license on a vehicle that has been licensed already

    1. New PCM/ECM/TCM on same vehicle with the same VIN. My understanding this requires a new license.

    2. Same module but factory dealer software updates whether it is driveability, campaign etc. Same module, same VIN.

    3. VIN change with same module.

    4. Same module, changed factory software with different VIN.

    Thank you very much.

    Yes, all of the above
It doesn't have to be perfect, it just needs to be done in two weeks...

So just to be clear Bill. An dealer update will remove the license, and will require additional credits as if it were a new vehicle?
    Thank you for your response.

Licenses are tied to the VIN and the ECM/PCM Serial ID number. Those don't get changes with a dealer update. I've never lost a license due to a dealer update.

That is only for GM, for Dodge and Ford the licenses are tied to the vin & operating system which the os typically would be changed by a dealer update.

I am also interested in this topic. I am running a 411 swap on my 96 two door tahoe which I have spun a rod bearing an have done an Ls swap. Same PCM but with a 4.8 now instead of the 5.7 am I going to have to do a segment swap or is that just for the a trans?? Can I simply just change the motor in the drop down menu write to vehicle and be happy?????

My GM Gen4 truck is 2 credits to license. If I replace the ECM with one of my spares (same VIN, stock calibration, different serial), is that 1 credit or 2 to re-license? What about the same but for only the TCM? I know if I do both at the same time it's only 2 credits just not sure what happens if only one is changed.

I tuned a truck for a guy recently (2015 Escalade) and he went in for a dealer re-flash on his TCM for the trans shudder. It wrote new OS numbers to both the ECM/TCM, so I had to paste changes instead of simply re-write....but it did not charge me extra credits.

Idk about any other situations, but that?s my recent experience with it
