'07 8.1 needs help

Hi just got this truck last week, had a diesel and used the Edge Evolution on it worked great. They don't do gas.

I'm not looking to race this monster, just use it and tow heavy loads long distance every 3-4 weeks like 3,000 miles.

My first issue is gas mileage, can that be improved-if so about how much?

What else is out of whack on the factory settings?

Do I need to purchase this or are there shops that can do it.

1. probably, but not much
2. fuel, spark, TM, everything in most cases can be tweaked to an extent
3. you can either purchase hptuners or find a shop near you that uses hptuners & is willing to tune your truck...NY is a big state so im not sure where the closest hptuner is.

For mileage, probably the only thing you can do to that thing is go to a ginormous tire size. But, like you said, you use it to tow heavy loads, so you need that gearing for hills, starting out, etc. Thats one decision where you gotta pick option A or B. cant have both.

sell it and buy a diesel... sorry to say it but a gasser isnt going to do much if anything for milage when towing a heavy load.

I have now about 400 miles on the engine, at 60 I showing about 13.2.

At 75 11.8.

Not all as bad as I expected.

Our 02 1500HD 6.0 w/ 373's complete with piston slap and valvetrain tick, pulls 14 on the flat parts of a trip. Having the air conditioner on or off makes no difference. lol

So, id say you're doing pretty good for a 496.

What gear ratio are you running?

I have 4.10's, I looked at the stock air intake, it looks very much like the after markets.

Will better elements fit in the stock air box?

Also looked at the exhaust, it ain't small? The muffler looks like maybe 12-14" in diameter.
