Kooks Green Cats and Cat over temp Recommended Settings???

    Guys,

Currently I have Kooks X-pipe without Cats and stock mufflers. I am switching to Kooks "Green" Cats X-pipe with Corsa Sport mufflers. I have C.O.T disabled now, question is what is the best practice when running these Green Cats? Enable or disable C.O.T? I want to keep these expensive "Green" Cats from premature damage. Looking for proven setup recommendations.

    Thanks Guys!!

If you want them to live and you like to get on the throttle, reenable cat over temp. High sustained egt will trash the substrate in a hurry.

If you're just driving on the street or doing 1/4 drags then you're fine. If you're doing any sustained racing like road course or 1 mile speed runs then you will want to enable it. You can enable it and tell it to not dump so much fuel as well.

Thanks guys for the input; I mainly street drive the car with spirited pulls on the highway 60-140mph. Occasional 1/4 mile.. Car is 2017 Zo6 M7 with 18% OD bottom, AFE cold intake, ported TB and kooks headers BTW.

So Max enrichment(Alcohol Composition % is 1.20 stock) suggested change to .60?
Also, Min enrichment is .03 stock; should that value remain or change?

    Thank you Sir!!

I think that he means half way between 1.00 and 1.20.... so 1.10. So your minimum value can stay.

Got it thanks guys! Should I leave the min enrichment to .03(stock)? Or I have seen guys use 1.03 for the min when matched with the 1.10 Max?

Personal preference but I usually set the minimum to 1.0. Sometimes I raise the temperatures by 100-200 degrees as well so that it rarely goes into COT or barely goes into COT.

Why not stick an EGT probe in the catalysts and watch the temperature? Most CATs will be permanently damaged above 1000 degC. Remember COT also cools your exhaust valves and O2 Sensors.

    This.

Enrichment mechanisms like COT were part of the "whole package" when these engines were originally developed and tested under harsh conditions. If you disable any of them, you're running the risk of overheating and breaking something. It's reasonable to assume that GM generally knew what they were doing when they developed the aspects of the calibration meant to protect various components since they have to warranty it. For this reason, I don't recommend disabling COT regardless of whether there are cats, or not.

To the OP: Have you ask Kooks what they recommend for this setting? In this context, I wouldn't go leaner than the OE setting, but maybe they want it richer?

COT is very useful in prolong racing such as 1-2 mile top speed runs or at the race track where you are constantly going WOT for extended periods of time. Half of the OE enrichment in COT is plenty safe for street use. Personally I don't use it at all for any 1/4 drag cars or street cars. Although most of those guys are running e50 - e85 + meth so no need to COT anyhow.
