2017 Golf R Requested Torque Limiter?

I was trying to mess with my friend's Golf R, but I'm running into an issue requesting over 280ftlbs. (I'm using a dyno so it's easy to tell if there's an actual difference). I've tried going up on the requested torque with no luck and I can't find any limiters in the file itself. I know these ecu have many layers of limiters, so maybe they just aren't defined yet. I was able to adjust some other things with correct results (PE AFR, Stoich AFR (E30), Etc.). If someone could change what I'm missing or let me know that'd be greatly appreciated. I included both the stock file and a basic adjusted file I was trying to start with. Thank you for the help.

I would check in logs that these are not the limiting factor

or just raise them by 100 to test

Thank you, you made me realize something. I was using latest official HP tuners release and even downloaded the beta which I remember checking and not seeing those tables available... I must've accidentally reopened the regular version because I'm see them and other things there now. Thanks, dumb oversight 😑

Have you had any luck moving forward on this? I am stuck in the same boat with a 2016 R - it's like there are some tables missing - I seem to be capped out at about 240lb/ft (360nm).

Airflow is below the limits I can find.

No DTC's and I can't seem to make any sense of what's going on.

Edit: If I had to guess there's no table for max torque at clutch (4wd) for the DCT?

Yours looks like it may be missing Indicated Torque Limits - Max PC0 table [39938] also. You will need to submit a ticket or define yourself with user defined parameters

Post your files and I can take a look. Your OS is different than OPs, so there's some different calibration values/limiters that are in the way most likely.

Here's what I have. I haven't run down an A2L yet but I see there are some for sale.

    2016 Golf R Stock + Trans.hpt

    2016 Golf R limiters.hpt

edit: limiters file is the one I've been fooling with.

Here's my hack at it, if you want to give it a go. Biggest things I saw were the compressor outlet temp and turbo speed limiters and the torque monitor values--those definitely need raised.

Might be wise to add some fuel to the power enrichment tables for when you do start generating more boost

Let us know how it goes, please get a log if able too, it can help ID what's going on. Also attached is my old default hpt log list.

Sweet, I'll check it out later - appreciate the work Aaron. I've got a lot of parts to build for this car but wanted to familiarize myself with simos on all the factory hardware before going crazy. It's a little difficult translating what's in the FR to how hpt has it laid out so that has made me a bit frustrated.

Hey your channels xml is corrupt BTW.

No dice with the changes. Here are some logs:

    aaron changes log.hpl
    aaron changes log 2.hpl

    Thanks man!

Hey, this might sound dumb, but how do you submit a ticket?

Upon another look, your box code/OS also appears to be missing Indicated Torque Limits - Max PC0 table [39938]. This table was the final one that was "in the way" for me on my 259K_0003 box code.

I maxed it out with user defined params in v3...take a look.

Email support will auto generate a ticket in their system, but I like to access the ticket system/site directly, helps me make sure I don't forget to attach any files on the initial request and avoids extra back/forth between you and the CS rep:

    https://support.hptuners.com/hc/en-us/requests

Plus you can easily check on the status here etc.

You did "open channel config" and it said the XML is corrupt? It's not a layout file or anything like that, only a channel config. Weird, it's working for me. On the latest beta I presume?

I did some extensive testing with the logger and the logging rate goes to crap if you select any SAE params (I'll spare you the long explanation, I made a thread about it). Logging rate isnt great at all, but using a log list that is only Mode 22 params and being careful about the logging rate of all items can help quite a bit though. I was getting at least 5hz for the fastest logged items using this log list....which is pretty bad, but previously it was more like 2-3hz before I tweaked it and removed SAE params.

    Thanks Aaron, so, interesting results.

Torque request is now working, but the trans loses RPM signal from the ECU around 5000 RPM and goes into limp mode.
I dropped the requested torque to 400nm and same results.
I dropped the requested torque to stock, and same results.
I flashed the old file, and the problem went away, but obviously torque limited again.

It reminds me a lot of what Bosch ECU's do when something is wrong like you ran off a map or screwed up an asm patch and the watchdog process reboots the ECU. Momentary loss of engine power and then it resumes operation (albeit in limp mode in this case).

So my question is, how did you find this map, and do you have an xdf or range/factors/scaling you can share? I'm wondering if the table offset is slightly different in my bin than in yours?

Thanks man, I appreciate all your help!

Aaron if you could max out that table for my file to try while I'm waiting for support that'd be extremely appreciated.

This is interesting and I'm not quite sure what to think of it. Any ECU codes at all? Usually you'll see P0606 (ECM/Processor error), sounds scary but it's usually some sort of ECM2 process monitor/correlation error.

The values I changed from v2 to v3 I run the same values/changes on my file so I know those are OK. Since I really messed with my tune, Hp tuners has added quite a few more tables to include more "max torque" type tables that I saw you edited. Like you mentioned.... it's not easy to try and correlate what a particular table in HPT with what's in an OLS or A2L file. I can figure it out, but it's a little time consuming. I wonder if some of those 'other' changes might be conflicting with something.

In all honesty, I think your best option is once you get your Pi setup or openport-- flash to my box code--8V0906259K_0003, which is the last/newest version before they went to simos 18.10. Totally cross-flashable without any worry of any sort of immo brick-- in fact there is a TSB that recommends all cars "upgrade" to 259K to better handle cold start misfires.

Once you do that, you can re-read your ECU in HPT and get another file for your car on this box code. It won't cost you any more license fees since the VIN/ECU serial are the same and that's what you're actually licensing.

If you really want to dig into this stuff (sounds like you've got a pretty good handle/understanding), then I would recommend open source stuff, or at least partial open source to help gain an understanding of everything. I sent you a PM about a Discord group if you're interested in joining. I have some definition files and such to help you get started
