only components from the van that was used is, engine, transmission, ecm/tcm, ignition swith is factory to 72, used 72 starter wire, all new relays to run engine/ecm. shifter, brake switch are not used, not using y-pipe or converters, running front 02 sensors, was planing on tuning out rear 02 sensors, just wanted to do a quick test fire before removing engine for paint.
It should start and run with a bad/no cam sensor signal. Just the way GM does things. The cam sensor is only - ONLY - used to determine #1 TDC compression from #1 TDC exhaust. Cam sensor does not affect spark timing or injectors in any other way. If the cam signal is missing it has to guess which of the two TDCs the engine is on and if it guesses wrong the first try you get hard starting, some popping and banging maybe, and then it switches to the other TDC and starts and runs normally. I believe you had another problem you accidentally fixed without realizing it while changing the cam sensor.
