    Knock retard - Ford Mustang 5.0 2019

    Hi guys, i need some help understanding knock strategy behind Ford's ECUs

    The car is a 2019 Ford Mustang 5.0 GT, it is completely stock, it still has the stock map, and i logged it at WOT in 4th gear using 97oct gas, but it pulled serious timing: At 5000 rpm, it was pulling more than -8.0 degrees.

    Is this normal or am i missing something?

    No. Knock Retard at -8.0 degrees is +8.0 additional degrees of advance totalling 26.x degrees. It's working fine.

    Knock Retard is the reduction or prevention of knock by lowering ignition timing:

    (+) Adding Knock Retard = Reducing Timing. PCM is seeing knock.
    (--) Lowering Knock Retard = Increasing Timing. PCM isn't seeing knock.

    Ok, thank you very much for the answer.

    Laughing hard at the fact that you even have this on your signature. Must be a very common misinterpretation i believe?

    on the 18+ cars you might want to look at knock per cylinder, so you will be logging 8 PIDs for knock. In that case negative is retarding spark, and positive is advancing spark.
