E90 ECM Vehicle Anti-Theft System relearn

Trying to have the Vehicle Anti-Theft System relearn done by myself and going through a dealer since they will not do it at all

What hardware and software do I need?

You need a GM subscription to SPS/SPS2, and a compatible J2534 interface. With SPS, you were able to purchase a single VIN license for $40, but I believe GM is phasing out / has phased out SPS. That leaves the option of purchasing a subscription to Techline Connect, and using SPS2, which is ~ $5000 USD if I recall correctly.

    Thanks for the info.
The second is option is not worth it to me for basic tunning needs

You can buy a single car SPS2 license for $99 for 1 year I thought. The $5000 option is for unlimited cars.

As far as I know, SPS2 access is only available via TechLine Connect.

However, I did stop at the AC Delco site today, it does appear you CAN still buy a single VIN for $40.

That is correct and then you'll need either an aftermarket J2534 or GM MDI2. I'd recommend the MDI2. Working on nearly new vehicles you'll want the latest diag. capability.

BTW these E90s are gonna be fun. They inverted the MAF table. And no more VVE. Neural Network now.

I?ve got same issue bought a 2020 trail boss custom 6.2 and my local dealer won?t do it either. Would a trail boss custom be the same as the other trucks that use a fob? Because my truck uses a key? This hiccup is all that?s stopping me going hptuners e90 ecm swap. Would just a cheap eBay (tech 3) with subscription do what I need it to do? Sorry not trying to hijack thread.

All late model GM vehicles have "VATS" (Vehicle Anti Theft System). This is an authentication protocol between the ECM and the BCM to ensure the ECM is trusted by the rest of the vehicle. It has nothing to do with whether your vehicle has a physical key, or a fob.

Its main purpose, as you can tell by the name, is to prevent vehicle theft, or at least make it more difficult. When you try to start the vehicle, the BCM and ECM determine whether either is trusted by exchanging codes. If the process succeeds, the engine starts. If it fails, it won't start.

New ECMs aren't programmed with these codes, so you need to follow the "immobilizer learn" process from GM. The process itself programs vehicle specific authentication keys into the ECM.

In order to do this, you need a SAE J2534 compliant device (DashLogic makes a relatively low cost one), and you need a GM SPS license for your vehicle (found at the web site listed above).

Or, maybe HP Tuners can give us a VATS disable patch for the E90... Until that happens, if it's even possible, you'll have to follow this process.

I like the VATS disable patch you speak of lol that would be a easy workaround and I’m good without the vats working if I disabled it that’s on me. Anyway to propose this to hptuners? Could someone plz check link below would something like this work to just get me by after I receive the e90 ecu back from hptuners? Thanks

That is a made in China MDI1 clone. I wouldn't pay 10 bucks for it.

So it wouldn’t work to atleast do what I’m trying to do? It’s nothing that I’d use long term lol just a one time deal to get things up and rolling when I get the ecm back from hptuners.

DashBridge CX Is this the one you speak of? I’m just trying to figure this out so I can send my ecu. Diablo I know is a taboo word here lol but they are unlocking ecu’s for tuning and aren’t needing this if I’m reading the description right? I’d not go that route I’d stick hptuners for way more options but I don’t know how they can get around the relearn some how? I’m sorry for all the questions just trying to find the easiest way to do this relearn since my dealer won’t and understand it.

Just a update I got a e90 hptuners cracked ecm tried to disable the vats and got the truck to start after editing afew codes. Now you have to play with the ignition about 30x to get truck to turn over. My dealer refuses to do immobilizer relearn so sadly I’m in a situation.anybody got 1 I could rent so to speak I’m more then happy to spend some $ to fix this I’d ship it there and back to someone? Thanks

Even if you wave cash in front of them they wont do it? I would call around to different shops and offer them an hour of their labor time?

You can do this yourself. First you need a J2534 compatible interface. This is one of the cheapest ones out there:

    http://www.dashlogic.com/products/j2534/dashbridge_cx

Then, you go to ACDelco TDS: https://www.acdelcotds.com/subscriptions and purchase a single SPS2 VIN license, for $40.

With your VIN license, you'll be able to perform an immobilizer learn yourself, as well as flash OE updates to any of the ECUs in your truck.

$299 plus the $40 license fee adds up quick on something that will only be done once for the life of the truck plus the hptuners cost. Was just looking for a cheap way to get out of it. Was hoping it could just be tuned out. Never realized coming across a tech tool or something to do this with would be so hard to find. Might have to spend the money on this setup possibly I guess.
