I currently have a snap on pass thru pro 4 j2534 device and am wondering if it will work as an interface device with hptuners software? If I don't need to buy a specialized dongle I would prefer not too.

Download the software suite and try it. VCM suite is free. Highly doubt it will work though.

Nope, hpt uses a proprietary vehicle interface. You'll have to buy an MPVI2+
