VCM Editor crashes when opening .hpt files - New user

Hi, new user here. I downloaded the latest version of VCM Editor and I cannot open any files without it crashing. The error msg is says 'VCM Editor has stopped working. A problem has caused the the program to stop working properly.'

My old tuner sent me the .hpt file and I can open it on my friends laptop but I can't seem to get it to work on mine. I already tried adjusting the properties to run in win7 compatibility mode. It's a frustrating problem since I want to learn the editor but can't even open a file to explore.

Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

So I downloaded the Beta version of VCM Editor and it works fine (so far). I can now open .hpt files and begin to explore.
