Does the ECM need to be unlocked to read out the file? I know someone with a 2019 Tahoe that I might be able to pull a file from.

Yes it needs to be unlocked to read it out.

I think there's a misunderstanding here. The OP is talking about a 2020 Tahoe, not a Silverado. They still used the E92, so, they do not need any "unlocking".

Thought 2019+ Gm Silverado or Tahoe 5.3-6.2 used E90? No is that not the case? My bad if that’s the case. My E90 couldn’t be read till unlocked.

The SUVs used the E92 up through the end of 2020 model year. The 2021 SUVs, however, use the E90, but it's Global B, and as far as I know isn't supported yet.

Gotcha learn something everyday. I didn’t know that. Think gm would use same ecm across the board from a cost stand point.

It's because they didn't refresh the SUVs until 2021 model year, unlike the pickups which got refreshed in 2019. Actually the pickups are getting refreshed again in 2022, and they will also use the E90 w/ Global B.

Looking like the e90 global B will have even more encryption to making tuning even harder I assume?
