First step is admitting you have a problem

I'm not new to diesels and have been using a smarty S-06 for quite a while. I've been generally happy with it in the absence of tuning ability for my 05 but HPT (and others) have opened up a multitude of greater possibilities rather than the Smarty S-06 turnkey programs. I'll be quite honest, got my MPVI2 and I'm pretty overwhelmed and have no idea where to start. I've been collecting tune via this forum and making comparisons to my stock file. The problem is that each truck is different so it's hard to figure out what's going to work and what won't.

So I'm down to trying to make small adjustments to fueling and timing until I figure out what's going on and how those changes impact driving. But of course it's not that straight forward. Is there any starting literature out there that will help me figure out what parameters do what?
