    first time tuner need advice

Ive got a 2018 l83. Just installed btr stage 2 cam, gpi worked the heads, tsp long tube headers, whipple 2.9l, and soler lt5 ported tb. Had truck tuned by only tuner within 2 hours drive. He did admit not knowing anything about gen v but is very reputable with earlier generations. Truck was tuned off narrowbands. wondering if anyone could take time to look over tune and base tune to help with direction to go. Ive got an aem odII port wideband ordered as after researching has lead me to no knowing best way to tune gen v.

You can maybe reach out to a reputable remote tuner on here to get you started. thats what I did. Ben Charles does amazing work. I would send him a message and he can get you squared away. Im sure others will reply about your base tune as well and can help get you in the right direction. good luck!

C'mon, what kind of tuner can't even toss a wideband in the exhaust while tuning it. Heck, even a tail-pipe sniffer would have been better than nothing. Trying to tune boost without a wideband on a combo such as this is just silly.

If this is on stock L83 injectors, it's probably going to be out of injector with the mods done and for sure won't handle E85. Also the high/low octane timing tables are the same, that is not good. The low octane table must have less timing in it.
2016 Silverado CCSB 5.3/6L80e, not as slow but still heavy.

If you don't post your tune and logs when you have questions you aren't helping yourself.

I agree no way to tune gm stuff without wideband, especially boosted stuff. L83 even worse with boost added. It is frustrating that many new "tuners" come on here not wanting to just pay for a reputable tune from someone vetted. @Whippled l83 you wanting to to it now on your own? Lt stuff much more involved not a good starting spot. Adding a blower gets even more complicated. Simple early LS stuff a bit easier being airflow related. Torque based night and day difference. Even the best LS tuners hit a wall with LT stuff. I agree with 5fDP the injectors, pump LOW/HIGH wont support what that whipple can throw at it. Now that you have the AEM wb you can get a solid tune on it. If you're reaching out for tuners on here to tune it that can for sure be found.

It is stock fuel system. He tuned it after the cam, heads, long tubes and said there's plenty of fuel system left for the Whipple. Final dyno was 438hp 450ftlb. Which I know is low for the build. My main objective at the moment is get it dialed in clean as is then later on smaller pulley and better fueling

Your torque model hasn't been touched from appearance, so don't get into it too much. Could burn the trans out of it.

As far as gen5's being hard - all it is, is torque and air - nothing different than any other engine.

Hopefully he didnt make this comment based on the Injector Duty Cycle.

After the cam, heads, headers I was told it's only using 20% of fueling. That's why I started researching tuning and now will be finishing the build myself

DI doesn’t shoot 360 degrees of crank rotation, so IDC is not accurate

I'm really surprised he "tuned" it using O2's. O2 fueling corrections and tuning is fine NA even if it's not 100% spot on and will drift ever so slightly, but for a FI setup you HAVE TO verify fueling. It's good that your getting a wideband and restarting on things. Just the simple fact that you have headers with relocated O2's should have been tuned with a wideband as you have to dial your O2's in for their new location.

A couple of things you might actually have in your benefit. If your cam has an oversized fuel lobe, which I'm hoping was checked for pump clearance, then your tune has room for fueling. Sounds like your pretty much maxed out on fueling from your 20% DC already, so your going to want to alter your fuel tables for the necessary head room. BAD thing, your still stock 5.3 pump and injectors. Stock 6.2 pump and injectors will definitely support your mods, just not sure of the stock 5.3 components. You have ported heads and headers, so you'll lose boost there, so possibly. Power's still power and you need fuel for it. It's probably good if your throttle was closing due to DD and torque tables being off. I'm not sure your engine would still be running if it was at full power.

L83 and l86 have same hpfp but l86 has extra 20ish lbs. I've been looking at lt4 setup just heard a lot of clearance issues with lt4 hpfp under whipple

I got wideband on and maf dialed in within +- .5 from lamba. Go to do speed density and truck barely stays running. Is this normal?

How do you filter knock from boost and actual knock when logging for timing?

Opinions on going with l86 injectors or just adding meth injection to get truck to 600hp?

Would you have a preference on AEM or Snow meth kits for quality and reliability?

I always build my own with devils own hardware… alky control is good abs better then both the above.. get a single 15gph nozzle that will work well, if need more meth add a second nozzle…

Make sure tune is right, can pull too much fuel with meth and lower tq which will hurt the trans once you start making power
