    Exclamation 03 Cummins 24v 5.9 SWAP into 08 Ford F350 Frankenstein!!

    Hi All,

We are having issues turning off the skim (so we believe ) on our 08 ford f350 with an 03 cummins 24v 5.9 & ecm (this ecm came with SKIM). We turned off the skim using HPT and had our tuner zap the skim code out as well so it doesnt show up in the scanner. The truck wont start, it just cranks, probably not allowing the injectors to fire. I contacted HP support and they said you may need a dodge wiTech device (dealer only) but when i called the dealer they said that it only works for 07 and up and they dont have anything to support that.

Has anyone done this swap before and can anyone lend some help? thanks in advance.

Normally if you had a skimm issue it should start for a few second then die...did you tried to log when starting to see what happen?

are you sure? if it doesnt allow the injectors to fire then how would it run? we tried brake clean and it chugs but shuts off, otherwise it wont start at all. we did not log it, we scanned for codes and there were a few,

leave the skim on in vcm suite and if wired up properly it will start just fine, 03-05 vs 06+ are different. i drive a few swaps and have no issues

for 03-05 read the ecm which will give the generated file, then flash back in the ecm will be waiting to see/learn the skim which is not there and start fine. if it's turned off it will not run I suspect the map is not correct.
for 06-07 trucks I know on efi you can turn it off and it starts, 06-07 on hpt the above method worked for a guy I was helping out as well. i will be testing 07.5-09 6.7 shortly but with efi this time

Do you know if the engine ran before you got it?

If you don't know, I'd check the rail pressure to make sure it builds and you don't have a bad injector.

Then I'd change the cam and crank sensors. They can cause a no start condition...ask me how I know lol.

Bad cam and crank position sensors can but not always cause a no start condition, they could just cause a no battery charge condition. Verify things need to be replaced before just replacing for the sake of throwing dollar bills at something

Hey did you ever figure this out? Having the same problem with my swap, 2008 F550 with 03 commonrail. Cranks won?t start, p1652 code, tried everything, just sent my ecu off to have skim removed. But I still think it?s something else, would love to hear that having skim removed resolved your issue.
