No, the HPT will not work with GM SPS. SPS will, however, work with most any generic J2534 device.
This is a pretty steep mountain to climb the first time, doing dealer-type flashing with unfamiliar hardware (if you decide to buy a tool to do it). Especially if this is a one-time thing and not something you need to learn so you can do it every day to earn a paycheck. I'd just buy one pre-flashed with a VIN that matches the throttle hardware you want to use.

Yeah exactly - this is at least a one time deal - maybe MIGHT do it one more time if it comes up again..... any suggestions on who to use? FORUM vendor support folks first obviously (support the forum) - or are there other mail order places that are recommended?

Alvin can get you one. And also help pick a VIN/hardware combo that will be compatible.
If you want to keep braving it out on your own and want to try to sort through all the various pitfalls and pick a combo yourself, searching ebay for your ECM Service Number and 'programmed to your VIN' will be less dollars... but more work on your end. You'd have to know what you need. They won't be able to offer any kind of support like 'this only works with that pedal', you give them a VIN and they send you a 'puter SPS'd with that VIN and the rest is up to you.
