    2012 CTSV misfire- with log

I?m working to chase down a weird misfire issue and wanted some guidance. I?m not sure if this is tune related but it?s has been happening for the 2 years I have owned the car and it only happens during the very specific driving situations mentioned below. I have let it go since I almost never see heavy traffic and this is where it happens.

So far I moved the coils and changed all plugs and wires BR7 EF gapped at .026 to see if the misfire would ?move? but it didn?t. The miss on 4 occurs only when driving very slow 5-10mph with a small amount of throttle/feathering to maintain that speed. All traction control lights will turn on and the idle will go rough along with hard shifting. If I increase speed for a few seconds the lights will go off and the miss will stop. I get code P0300 and P0304 along with C0561 with CEL.

I am very new to HP tuners and have only read the car and done 1 upload. I have yet to log the issue as I can duplicate it at will. I have attached the current tune for some opinions if it is a tune issue. I would like to post a log as well. Any thought on the channel selections? The car runs very well otherwise.

I have attached a log I did to day and you can see the misfire count on 4 climb to over 100 when in this driving condition. Any other suggestions or ideas. Praying for a a bad injector at this point.

Dial in your maf for how lean it is then re-evaluate. You're 20 percent lean as an average, so you could start by multiplying the whole curve by that and going from there.

You are really lean which could be causing some of your issues. You're not logging KR and I bet you see KR when in the condition also add throttle position. I'd work on your MAF table and VE and see if that helps with fueling.

Here is my channel config and an LSA config I got from here a while ago.

Any ideas on why the misfire it would only be on a single cylinder? Ill up load another log later today with the channels you have provided. The car is running Meth but obviously not not operation in that condition. If I increased 20% would it go rich up top when the meth is spraying? The situation is currently in front of the tuner who is top tier on Vs and I have zero experience with tuning but trying to wrap my head around this issue.

It may make it rich up top. But I would NOT be doing WOT throttle runs until you get the fueling under control. Do you have a wideband to see where you are when in WOT?

I do not have a wide band. Car has seen quite a few WOT pulls over the last two years.. always with the meth on this tune.

Add the misfire PID's for each cylinder to the channel list you load. I only watch total misfires.

Even though it was tuned and you have done quite a few WOT pulls I suggest you invest in a wideband to know where you are otherwise you are guessing.

Id be open to dropping 20% more fuel across the curve but don't even know where to start. In all honesty I want to ditch the meth so I may need a whole new rework.

Go to Engine>Airflow>MAF Calibration>Airflow vs Frequency and select where you want to add the fuel and put 1.2 in the box and hit the "X" to multiply by 20%. Save and load.

Added 20% fuel and I think the STFT trims look a little better but still the same misfire issue on 4 in the same situation.

I attached a new log and the updated tune. Any other ideas?

I saw you swapped plugs and coils. Did you swap injector position?

Forgot to give you the math's to support the VVE graphs.

I have not moved injector position. This was next on my list. It is not something I want to do however and would probably have to pay a shop to try that along with a compression and leak down on 4. I was hoping it was in the tune since it has been an issue for so long and not really gotten worse over time which IMO would indicate a mechanical issue. How did the last log look to you?

Better but Bank 2 is still lean. I'd have the leak down done as I was also going to suggest that. So if a shop is going to do it see if they can also swap the injector on that cylinder. It's not that hard to do. The leak down is more time consuming.

Just moved injector positions and Im about to log but I found that on cylinder #2 there was an old injector o ring still in the head. I'm guessing air was leaking in and causing issues on adjacent #4 since the injector wasn't seated all the way tight.

Some fucking fantastic news!! All misfires are gone. I was unable to duplicate the issue which I could easily do before. I did some logging and just wondering if the "fix" made things too rich and I should load the old tune back in. I seem to be in the -18-20 STFT quite a bit. Car feel like its running much smoother than before. Thanks for all the help!

Great news! Glad it wasn't something big.

I would take your trims and multiply by half and sneak back down to +/-3 to 5%. Depending on how OCD you are. I try to keep mine around +/-2 but is the chase for perfection that I will never get to... LOL

    Also clear your DTC's.

Just so Im clear...take the original file and multiply by 1.1 instead of 1.2 is the same as what your suggested above and should bring me in line? Or should I take the current file and multiple by some other amount?

You might load the original tune back in and log it now to see how it is. Then adjust your fueling from there.

In my opinion you need to stop going WOT without a WB. You aren't going to know if you are running too lean until it's too late
