Thread: E85 double stoich method

    E85 double stoich method

I changed from 93 to e85 which tests at roughly e71 from the local pump. I am running e40 ecu and SD and set up for double stoich half IFR. Right now I have stoich set to 28.39. Since changing to E should I change the stoich? Maybe to 22 or so??

if u dont have the flex sensor u will have to adjust the stoich to suit the ethanol u have, if ur not sure and u have fueling dialed in within couple percent on petrol then adjust the stoich back till ur at the same error

Right now I have my ve dialed in with stoich set to gas but running E. I have been logging and tuning for months now like this and always wondered why my injector duty cycle is roughly 106% wide open, granted that is on 15 or so psi with 1000cc injectors and a aero motive brushless eliminator. The car did make a 1/8 lick at 6.36@117 at 3700lbs. I will change my stoich to reflect the E70 and redo my ve tables. I will set stoich to 21.40 because of the double stoich method I am using.

I do not have a flex fuel sensor

as u dont have the flex sensor just set the stoich until your fueling is back to where it was error wise, if injector data is good then it should be back to where it was error wise everywhere, if u guess with stoich and then adjust fueling u will be chasing your tail with every shift in ethanol or temperature shifts

if ur going to be doing this then a flex sensor would be the way to go just set and forget

A flex sensor is planned for the future

I wouldn't even bother until you get the sensor installed. The ethanol content changes wildly.. If your not emptying the tank completely of gas before refill you'll have a odd content %

I have been running e85 for months now but with the stoich still on the gas scale. There is no regular fuel in my tank only e85

So bear in mind once you correct thestoich ration in the calibration, your fuel modeling will now be about 30% off. Also things like transmission shifting which uses torque calculations and learned values, will now be reading 30% less torque do to your current 30% higher (fudged) airflow numbers. You will be perfroming a lot of relearns and resets to clear adaptives that were based on your inflated numbers
also 106% duty you were out of fuel along time ago. Either injectors are too small or pump isnt keeping up

Yeah figured I was out of fuel, I just changed the stoich and reduced the primary and boost VE by 20%. The car is at my friends house and I am heading there in a bit to load the tune and data log.
Funny thing is fuel injector clinic and both aeromotive claims I can get roughly 900whp out of this set up. My base pressure is at 62psi bumped from 58, I have a return system with 10an feed 8an return and boost reference regulator. I will let you guys know how it goes later. Thanks for the help guys.

Just something I am thinking about, does stoich value in the effect VE and injector pulse width? Ny my calculations with gas stoich on E I am roughly 26% over on both primary and boost ve tables. My brain is starting to melt lol

running e85 on petrol scale will have thrown it all out as mentioned, now ur going back to a more true setup its going to change everything, sounds like its going to be a bit more involved then just changing stoich, all torque and timing airmass will change which may mean u have to redo all those tables, if u didnt touch the virtual torque then it will be back to normal just all tables u have adjusted with torque value as a pid will need adjusting, also depending if u also adjusted the spark to suit as that will change once the airmass changes once u go back to proper, im almost going to say just to keep it as is if its working and wait till u get the flex sensor and then do all the adjustments then save u doing them twice

Everything is done, cruise ltft is now dialed in to +-2. Wot 1/8 mile pulls from a dig are in the .75-.77 lambda on my wideband. Timing is 15 total with 16psi of boost. But I am out of injector like I thought I was 104%. The two 1/8 hits I made the mph was 111.

sounds good, might be able to get some injector duty back going to .80 lambda or such, can even go maby .82 on ethanol depending on engine mods

I was thinking the same about going to .80-.82 and dropping timing to 14 degrees. I have never had the car on the dyno to tune I always street tune and keep it safe never on the edge. I don't believe my car is making 800whp as fic and aeromotives calculators suggest but you never know. I will have to get it to the track and see what kind of tines and mph it pulls. It's a stock ls2 with 317 heads a t6 billet 80mm turbo and a 232/240 .609/.615 cam.

It's definitely a single digit car. Not bad for a 3800lb gto.

I am not arguing, but do not be upset when it runs an 11.

Last year it went 11.1@126 with a torqstorm blower on 8psi. The car since has a permormabuilt level 3 60e with trans take a fti billet triple disc custom converter, 10pt 8.50 cert cage, strange single adjustable coilovers up front, viking doubles out back. Dss 1400hp axles and stubs. I do have a draggy and use it. I know they are not like the track but have their place. Best 60 foot so far leaving off the trans take on 4psi was 1.49. most of the time I leave off 2psi and cut 1.6 sixty's. If this car went 11's now I will burn it 😆
