    Unable to connect to VCM

I just received version 2.1.14.0 and am using it on my Supra LM7 swap. The motor is a 2003 5.3 LM7, the harness is from a 1998 F-body, and the VCM is from a 1998 Corvette. I do not know the history of the VCM (bought it on eBay).

When I plugged in an Actron OBD2 scanner it gave me code 1518, electronic TB error. The car has a cable TB.

I have verified all wires to the PCM as well as the OBD2 port.

When I tried to use HPT to "read entire" the VCM, I get "Connection Error"
"Unable to connect to VCM. Verify cable is connected and key is in the run position."

Why can the Actron read the VCM and HPT cannot? What am I doing wrong or is it something else?

My laptop is Windows XP home. The laptop is running on AC power and the car's battery was fully charged. I quit all firewall and AV programs, the only program running is HPT. The laptop is offline.

The car would not start after it was completed, the fuel pump wire is not grounding the pump to activate it, I jumpered this and it still does not start.
Currently (2020) swapping an LM4 5.3 and an older 4L80 into a Dodge Durango. My prior projects include Chevy Gen 1 V8 into an FB RX-7, Gen 3 V8s into an FC RX-7, a MK3 Supra, a BMW E34, and an LT1 into a 280Z. Still have the Datsun, a 383 LT4 Trans Am, and some bikes.

Did you install the drivers on the install cd?
It doesn't have to be perfect, it just needs to be done in two weeks...

Yes, I followed the install instructions (installed but did not run program, then plugged in cable, loaded drivers, then ran program) and USB channel A and channel B installed with no problems.

I did have to disconnect the cable from the car after I started the program for a firmware update, but this had no error messages as well.

I attached a wiring diagram I made for this swap, it shows the OBD2 port. I used the tan wire to pin #9, not sure if this was needed (UART function) but since it was there on the '98 car, I put it in mine as well.

One other thing, are the pinouts the same for the Corvette as the Camaro? I think the VCM I have came from a Corvette. The part number is the same as the Camaro, so I figured they would pinout the same.

    Update

I rebooted the laptop: No difference
I plugged the cable into my '98 Durango (also OBD2): Same error message
I pulled the OBD port fuse: Program said no vehicle power detected
I reinstalled the USB drivers (both already showed as HPT -like the help file showed- under the device manager) : No difference

Synopsis: Still can't connect, appears to be a computer or interface problem due to lack of connectivity to the other vehicle.

Next step is to uninstall the program and start from scratch.

was everything working BEFORE you downloaded the newest version? Or at least give us some details as to what exactly happened.

No problem, this is why I posted here as well as sending an email to support per the guidelines. The nice things about forums is that they can help people with the same problem now and years from now.

I did a "clean" re-install: uninstalled application then USB drivers then rebooted then reinstalled application and USB drivers (my application number was still there, so not all of it was uninstalled). Same installation sequence, same result.

I'll have to go out & buy one... <vent> and after the $ spent here that is not within the realm of possibility </vent>

My other vehicles (except the Durango and project RX7) are like 400 miles away, and none of them are OBD2 anyway.

problem is we don't support dodge as of yet so its not going to work...they use a differen protocal than gm does.

My first assumption is an issue with the wiring at this point.

Are you able to grab an infolog off of the vehicle? http://www.hptuners.com/help/demos/infolog.swf

Nothing has worked. I downloaded and tried to plug it in. When pluged it in, i heard the laptop make the beep where it means something new has connected. Also when i plugged it in to the car port the HPT box itself the power light lit up. At the very bottom of the screen it says cable status:Not Found. Where can i download the usb drivers???

We always recommend starting with the disk that comes with your hardware...everything you'll need to get up and running is right on the disk.

Did you check the manage drivers window like it shows on that page to see if it recognizes both A & B?

Your going to need to have the PCM programmed by a dealer with a tech 2 so that you have a valid vin #
