    install tune file

My tuner sent me a new file that hopefully will evict the idle gremlin it but he immediately went on vacation forgetting the fact that I should not be allowed in the same zip code with a computer. Generally he remotes into my computer and does what needs to be done. Judging by how long it takes him it must be a relatively simple process but.................. Is there a foolproof way that I can install this? I emphasize foolproof because if there is a 1% chance of my screwing it up there is a 100% probability that I will. I am willing to try because I am getting tired of driving with 2 feet and having the thing die more often than not in a tight parking lot, but don't want to take a chance of letting the smoke out. My experience is that when you let the smoke out you soon regret it.

I have tried a google search and have found a couple of sites that seem to be the advanced version of what I need but they lose me within the first minute. I need the site that says this is a computer, this is the on button etc.

If someone can help thanks in advance.

    - Turn on laptop, open the file the tuner sent you, using VCM Editor
-Plug one end of HPTuners cable into cars OBD2 port and the other into your laptop
-Hold down the start button for 10 seconds WITHOUT putting your foot on the Clutch or Brake. This will put the car in the correct mode to be able to flash the tune.
    - On the top menu bar of VCM Editor, navigate to "Flash" and click it. You will see a drop down menu pop up. Then select "WRITE VEHICLE". Then a window will pop up confirming you want to write the file. Click write again. THEN DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING UNTIL THE FLASH IS DONE and hits 100%
-press the start button to turn the cars electrical system off
    -disconnect the HPTuners cable
    -start car and drive

    Tripin,

I apologize, I should have been more specific. I have an L83 and 6L80 trans in a 63 Pontiac Catalina. It probably does not make a difference but it is wired in with a Howell stand alone ECM. The tune file in Question is presently residing in an e mail in my in box and therefore probably needs to be moved to HP. While it does have a keyless entry and push button start it is not factory so I am assuming that the "correct mode" is equivalent to KOEO. While I can do any necessary mechanics when you need to plug a laptop into it I am TOTALLY out of my wheelhouse and constantly fear pushing the wrong button and "letting the smoke out".
