    Question GC 6.4 2014 vs 2013, 2015 & 2016

    Hello everyone,

comparing my jeep to GC 2014 and 2015 i noticed totally different spark tables in the 2014 numbers is much higher got me curios and compared to 2013 and 2016 found only its all matching except for 2014 using much higher numbers in PT and WOT as well.

is there a reason behind it ? where the 2014 built differently somehow ?

other question to have a base start for my jeep is it advised to match it to stock 2016 for example ? can this be done for all PCM parameters ?

    thanks

other Question answer: is it advised , depends on your goal, generally spark tables change because of Emmisions or spark table

"can this be done for all PCM parameters" trick question , if your 14 has the same tables as say a 2012 , but different "values" you can change values to match and then scale the rest.
I have to run, but this is an interesting topic that I want to get deeper into answering.

    thank you for answering

My point was starting from a good base, i go this jeep pre owned and i don't know what has been done earlier
so i was thinking maybe over years factory is finetuning the OS or calibration hence copying stock 2016 for example would be a good base start for me

just an idea and wanted to know your opinion/experience

I have 5 boys, the 4th one Interned for DCX in 03 , and was hired on in 04 , he worked on a lot ECM/PCM tables , he left in 2018.
We have had this conversation a few times about why and the tables change over the years, and why a 5.7 (6.1 , 6.4) have different values between the different platforms , how Emmsions and feed back from the real world , not in house dyno's or closed course track testing infulenced how the ECM/PCM change over the years.

he has said a few times , 2014 was the peak for finding the balance in the OEM "tuning" for Emissions and "spritied" driving, he said as each new system came out they learned a lot. 04-05 was pretty much one size fits all, some of the OS updates were to change timing tables, begining of the model year everything got the same PT spark tables by the end of the year , LXs platform had different tables all together.
When we 1st started messing around with tunes, the 1st Maggie I played with I took the 05 Truck WOT spark and copied and pasted it to the Maggie, I vaguly rember my neighbor back in 06 complaining about how his Maggie lost some balls after he got it back from the dealer, my son said"well yeah" here the update took a bunch of timing out in the lower part of table, I did also bump up the top of the table from 23/24.5ish to 26 across the top..sooooo I figured if it works in a 4900lbs truck and should move a 4500lbs car......and it did picked up a .3th in the 1/4.
06 they started to focus on the differences of each vehicle platform and how the differences affect the real world performance. 07 it was realized that anything below 500rpms was a waste of programing.
09-13 they were looking for that sweet spot , from 15 -18 with the exception of the 6.2L the emphasis was starting to shift towards Emmsions.

If you take the time to compare timing tables between earlier 5.7(pre Eagle) and eagle 5.7s you'll notice the values in the Column axis change from low of 416, High of 5984 to 512Low, 5792High, but both tables maintaine 17 columns, it was a result of realing 416rpms was too low and 5984 was too high for real world OEM 5.7s..so they shortend up the range, which gave the ECU more usable set points to better control timing and clean up emmsions which relust in more power...........If you put eagle heads on the early 5.7 and intake on the ealy 5.7 and keep the stock 03-08 cam, you are only gaing 15 HP, if you match the timing curve, both PT and WOT, match the PE rpm values to your new timing tables, it's a 45 HP pick up once you get it all dialed in.
compare 2014 5.7 in the truck to 5.7s in the jeep they both start and end with the same axis column values but , in the middle sevral colums have different values and the cells under them have different values as well, each platform has their own OEM Timing "curve" .

Attached or two PT spark tables one is a stock 04 ram the other is a "cross breed" between Eagle 5.7 and 6.1 that will be used in that 04 Ram, and yes that is a lot of Timing on the big end....this truck has Prefix single plane intake that was welded up to match the 03-08 heads.

Thank you for the time and effort Rays,
like wise i believe the changes in tables is for emissions regulations, wanted to hear from someone with more knowledge and experience

i went back and compared a 2012 6.4 and its more or less close to the 2014 the 2015 and 2016 have much less timing

will keep my numbers close to the 2014 and work from there
