Hello, my name is Jeff and I am glad to be here. Looks like a great place to learn, I have been a gearhead since I was young and enjoy working on about anything. I have done a couple v-8 swaps on Jeeps and need to get better at the tuning process. I'm getting close to retirement and still enjoy traveling the country in my Jeep and off-roading/overlanding.

Hey guys.. new here. I'm a mobile mechanic in Central Florida that specializes in electrical diagnostics and diagnostics in general. I've been dabbling in tuning a little for a while. All eec-iv&v with Moates products using TunerPro.

I Got HP tuners finally for AFM/DOD repair jobs. And it's almost a culture shock with the easy User Interface. Not knocking TP or Moates, but stepping from 1990s programming to 2025 is a change. Now I just need to learn how to use the search function properly and I'll probably be a silent lurker more than anything..

Stephen here. Dealership tech for GM and now Mopar. Im using hp tuners for my Cammed 97 Firebird LT1 with a 411 pcm swap. This is really my first dive into the world of tuning fuel injection and this place has been greatly helpful. I will do a write up at some point to show some of the things i have struggled with and how i over came them. Thank you to the people that I have gained insight from and the ones that facilitate this place!

New member hope to learn a little to help with troubleshooting and a small amount of tuning on my truck.

Have a 5.3L with P59 in my 64 C10, Installed the BTR truck norris and flex fuel sensor. I already have a street tune done by my semi-local tuner and it runs very well.

    ECM: 12576106 Hardware 12570558

The small items right now I will be looking at:

Run a wire from my Vintage Air compressor 12v activation into ecm and have the computer be able to idle up when ac is activated. I checked and do have the hardware in my ecm for pin 17/55 like the red/blue ecm. With the relays and switches from VA the other functions will stay stand alone, like fans on at certain pressure and compressor on/off.
Only wanting to engine to idle up when compressor comes on, under 750 rpm and no throttle if possible. Or maybe it decides how much to idle it up itself depending on load no idea, but I have read this is how some people are handling it.

2nd item I want to look into:

I read my ecm yesterday and while I have no experience at all with what I am seeing as far as parameters, I did see under speedo my gear ratio is incorrect it is set for 3.43 instead of 3.73. I have read on this a little, but will do some more research when I am off work. It seems this value not only adjusts speed but also some transmission shift calibrations from what I have been reading.

I have my current tune saved on my computer, I plan to wire the ecm for the A/C activation in a week or so and flash/test the function. Then I will do some do some more research on what to data log and run a few days of that and try to decipher it and probably send my tuner the data log as well. When we did the street tune it took around an hour of driving and another hour of making adjustments along the drive.

I will email my tuner and see if the gear ratio mis-match may be the cause of my 1st to 2nd hard shift.

When we did the street tune he said it was normal with the corvette servo, and since this is my first time having a corvette servo in anything it may be normal. And this may not even be the correct place to make a change to the gear ratio/tire size I just saw it was off when I was clicking through the different tables.

But if changing this and calibrating can tone down the 1st/2nd shift I will definitely be doing it. He set all line pressures to stock since the transmission is basically new, I had a complete rebuild to 4l65e specs done on it, they recommended corvette servo to lower clutch slip in 1st/2nd.

I have driven this truck for over a year and a half with no issues with either the base tune or the Truck Norris tune.

I probably could have my tuner take care of these few issues I am having but its over an hour drive and then pay each time so I figured I might as well learn a little more and get some satisfaction of doing the work myself. I built the truck from nothing but a rusted out body and good frame, all the wiring/fuel system/brakes etc.... I did myself.

The only things I did not have a hand in were the transmission rebuild/rear end rebuild and new driveshaft.

    Vehicle make/model/year - 2003 Chevy Tahoe
    Tune and data log
    Engine/size - L59/5.3L
Axle gear ratio / tire size - 3.73/28.1
Computer and operating system used - P59 /
    Type of heads (317/243) - 862
    Transmission - 4L60e
Torque convertor stall -2500 / Trailblazer
    intake manifold - Stock Truck
Intake tube / air filter - 3.5? with Spectre high flow 8.75?
    MAP part number
    MAF part number
    Injector part number - 12580426
cam used (link to specs) - BTR Truck Norris 212/22x ? 107 LSA
exhaust type - Longtube headers/Borla Pro Xs muffler
    pictures of engine
    pistons - Stock Dished
    compression -Stock
throttle body type, size and DBW/DBC - Stock truck - DBW
fuel system type - Aeromotive 340 w/return, Vacuum fpr

I will make a post on the actual forums when I am off work. I am very happy with how it runs so far though, no issues hot/cold etc...only the two items I listed. Mainly just the idle bump while compressor is engaged, it does stumble when I come to a stop with the AC on, no issues with it off.

Hello my name is Alan and I'm a first time hemi owner with a 2021 Dodge charger RT. I look forward to learning how to tweak the PCM and make some decent power.

I'm self taught with mechanics and I can do basic things. Pretty much a complete novice. So I'd figure I would learn first before I get into trouble by modifying the PCM without any knowledge of how everything works.

    Hello all,
I'm doing some work to my 2012 Tahoe LTZ 4wd. I lost oil pressure on startup after 280k so I freshened up the 5.3 with bearings and rings. I deleted the dod and AFM. Chopocabra cam and AFR enforcer small bore heads. Been using the MPVI3 with a prolink and it works great. Hoping to aford a new converter soon and eventually plan to put an M112 supercharger on it. These forums have been invaluable at teaching me along the way.

    Hello everyone,
My name is Robert. I am mainly a Heavy duty diesel mechanic. I built my first engine and transmission at the age of thirteen. I am in my early 50's now. I just purchased an MPVI3 and have started getting familiar with HP Tuners. My current street worthy car is an '71 ElCamino with a 381 stroker (.20 over not .30 over 383), Holley sniper EFI and Holley electronic ignition, it made everything so simple on this car. What brought me here is one of my personal project cars is an 2010 Camaro. It came with an 3.6 6l50. I like so many other people that have these cars am changing over to V8 and 4speed automatic I have an engine on the stand ready to build. I have two Transmissions already built, a 4L80E and a 4l60E. I prefer to use the 4L60E, I have heavy duty planets, hardened drums, shafts, etc in it. The engine came out of a 2006 Silverado (LQ4) 6.0l. I also have a differential out of an SS to use. I don't have any issues mechanically getting the engine built, Transmission and differential in the car the right way. What I would really like to accomplish here is to find out if I should use a 58 tooth reluctor on the crank or a 24 tooth. The way I understand it is certain computers are only capable of using 58 tooth and some are only capable of using 24 tooth. For instance P38 I think it is... could do the 6.0l with the 4l60E OS. I have one out of a trailblazer SS. Can it only do 58 tooth or can it do either? Then I come to the question of will it communicate with the body module that's currently in the vehicle? I have several different computers I could use if the 38 isn't the best choice. I have a 67, 69, 59 (I think y'all call it a blue plug) all sitting here. All of them should be able to control either of the tranny's without having to use a separate TCM correct? If I knew what reluctor to use I could build the engine which is the next step. Any advice from one of you experienced folks would be much appreciated. I will cross the bridge of getting the body module handled when I get to that point. I have an IP and fuel pump module out of the SS also. If anyone here has ever done this type of swap before I would be grateful for the advice.
    Thanks for reading.

    Hello Justin,
Your harsh 1-2 shift could be a broken 1-2 accumulator spring. I have noticed over the years that some builders don't even bother looking at the accumulators. Also that trans has a PCS (pressure control solenoid) sometimes called force motor. Many's builders turn the screw on the back of the PCS up a little bit to increase line pressure (imo, should never be turned up more than a quarter turn, usually an 1/8th will do) you may need to turn that down a tad. it is easily accessible after removing the transmission pan. It is the larger solenoid near the spring for the shift position valve. Maybe this information will give you a direction to consider. Your truck sounds like a fun ride. Good luck with it.
    Robert

    Hello Everybody,
My name is Mark, I am a former auto tech from NE Pa, that went into the industrial field. I work with plc's and controls, and am now near retirement. I decided to get into tuning as a hobby, and to supplement my retirement income later. I have a 08 Tundra, that I am using as my shop class. I do want to thank member Slow&Steady for all you have posted. Your transmission speed to rpm chart is a life savior.
