The only thing I can think is that the MPVI Pro is using the OBD2 port as a ground. Basically I did the same thing you did, except I have a self tapping screw and a ring terminal coupling the wire to...
If you do that, it isn't being grounded. The EIO plugs into the HPTuners Pro MPVI box, which plugs into your laptop which is not grounded.
You need to get both to a good chassis ground
I have 4 wires:
White- 0-5v output (going to EIO Pin #1)
Black- Chassis Ground (going to a good chassis ground)
Red- 12v power (going to a switched 12v source)
Blue- Serial Output (capped off)
...
I just went out and took the gauge ground and EIO pin #5 ground wire and grounded them together. I sanded the paint off the chassis in front of the airbag module. Then I used a self tapping hex head...
.....please elaborate
Thanks for the reply!

There's nothing wrong with the 98 pcms. For most of the setups that people are running (i.e. non boosted setups), the pcm will handle the engine functions fine.
Steve (Frost) is in the middle of...
What are the other parts/sensors which would cause a problem? I am going to switch to the newer 99+ ECT sender, and purchase an aftermarket fuel gauge to work with the stock senders ohm rating. Any...
