update scanner?

can you update the vcm scanner without effecting the editor? I don't wanna mess with updating that side but I have a truck I can't see timing retard data on but I can with a cheap dongle and phone app. since I can't find anyway to add a known pid manually, the app gives me that, as it's just a common gm pid. I was wondering if updating scanner might help. I'm on 4.6.3 currently and they show a 5.0.4 as available update.


I let it update the editor side once and it was a nightmare, I couldn't even log in right, had to use a windows restore point to get everything working again. trying to avoid all that again.

Yes you can, they just don't want you to. Sorry to spill the beans Bill but it was a required option when you guys did that emissions bs
I have three versions of HP on my laptop and can use any of them at any time.
