    LS Swapped 2002 5.3 LM7 with cam upgrade tuning help or advice needed.

    I posted files about a week ago and only got a response from one guy that did'nt help much so I'm trying again. I have a 1971 Monte Carlo with a 5.3 LM7 from a 2002 Silverado with a automatic 4L60e trans. The file I uploaded is from when I first sent the PCM to the guy at LT1swap about 8 years ago. The only thing I told him was I was putting the engine in a 71 monte carlo with long tube headers and a 4l60e auto trans. The file I'm posting only has changes that I did because I installed a bigger cam (SUM-8701R1 camshaft upgrade (218 Int./227 Exh. /112 degrees +2 adv.) when I rebuilt the engine. I increased the rpm as well as the airflow. I did install better springs that match the camshaft as well.

    Specs:
    P01 computer
    rebuilt 4l60e (stock converter)
    longtube headers (no cats)
    no egr
    SUM-8701R1 camshaft upgrade (218 Int./227 Exh. /112 degrees +2 adv.)
    2 Electric fans from a ford or dodge (completely wired up)
    stock everything else
    external fuel pump


    The scanner log that I am posting is a config file from RussK and was done from a cold start to temp. I noticed that bank 2's numbers changed as the vehicle got warmer. Any assitance or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

    Massive vacuum leak or exhaust leak on that side if the fuel trims are pegged like that.

    Verify fuel pressure as well and could be very possible you need larger injectors if you plan to really spin this engine to where it can make power. Venture to guess that once you go above 5,800-6,000rpm, you'll be pushing it on those stock injectors.
    2016 Silverado CCSB 5.3/6L80e, not as slow but still heavy.

    If you don't post your tune and logs when you have questions you aren't helping yourself.

    There is not enough info for this to be any more than speculation, but I would bet you burned a plug wire on the headers and have a dead miss now on the passenger side. Several things in the log point to this being likely.

    I did another log tonight. I don't have any leaks that I can find and there are no codes. Looking at the log you can see bank 2 starts going out of wack as the engine temp rises. I added the o2 sensor voltages on this log. I did notice my fuel pressure is off. I have an inline summit racing fuel pressure gauge that Im looking at. I noticed it never made it over 50psi and statred fluctuating the longer I ran the engine.

    Could the fuel pump be the problem?

    In the pic with the gauge showing 20 PSI, is that with the engine running? If so, that's the first thing that needs fixed.

    Forget the inline mounted gauge. Put a diagnostic gauge on it.

    If you really have 20psi of fuel pressure, you have a basic problem that can't be tuned around and should have been addressed as soon as the car was initially started. Or before if it's anything like that pressure at key on engine off.

    You came to a tuning forum looking for help with your config. file and interpreting the data from a data log file. No amount of button pressing on a keyboard will fix your fuel volume issue, which is currently read as a psi problem. Low fuel psi, most likely due to a volume supply issue will cause the issues we/you are seeing with the data being reported by the NBO2's. Inturn, this is a problem that can't be fixed with a keyboard. Fix your fuel issue (mechanically), retest, then show us the config. file and data log after the mechanical fix. If you still have issues after the repair, make note of the time stamps in reference to the new log. You asked for guidance and we gave it to you.

    I am well aware that tuning cannot fix a possible fuel pump issue. Yes, I came to this forum for help with a config file and thanks to 5FDP (#2), I started looking into the fuel pressure issues while troubleshooting. Thanks to post's 2.3 and 4, I have ruled out everything but the fuel pump. I am going to autozone to get a fuel pressure test guage since the inline might not be reliable thanks to (gtstory).

    So guys you see I am getting good info from the forum leading up to tuning. I am not here for someone to do the tune for me. I am in the process of learning to tune. I have been turning wrenches for a long time and 15 yrs exp as a mechanic in the U.S. Army. I am extremely knowledgeable when it comes to working with computers as well as databases, tables and graphs. Was just coning here for some advice from someone currently more experienced than I am.

    Idk why people give so much shit to new guys. It's different if they argue, but this guy just wants some help.

    You're alright 71monty. Also, If you're going to monitor pressure do it at the rail where the injectors are at. There are schrader adapters for stock rails. Mechanical is fine for checking, but they can leak when damaged internally. I'd run a transducer to an electric gauge if you're going to keep something on there.

    I've never seen a mechanical gauge off but I suppose it is possible. You are going to have to figure the fuel pressure out first. I wouldn't it to run well with fuel pressure that low. even with tuning.

    External fuel pumps aren't too common as a main pump. They are prone to overheating sometimes. Most LS stuff is centered around 58 psi with either a vacuum reference or not.

    I finally got around to addressing the fuel pressure and bank 2 issues. Again, I don't want anyone to do my tune for me, I want to learn. I am in did another log today and It would be greatly appreciated if someone took a look at it and point me in the right direction.

    Place the file in documents>hptuners>layouts
    basically if you open vcmscanner and click the layout tab it will open the file box that it needs to be in...

    I have been using The Tuning School Gen 3 channels and layout. I downloaded them from here.

    You will need to move them from your download folder to the channels and layout file of HPTuners..
