    Editor v4.10 dead?

Is it just me or did HP kill off the older version(s)? I really dislike v5, so this would be very annoying...

    The error I get:

I was simply trying to open a tune. It'll open if there is no tune because it isn't calling home. Open a tune, it calls home, I get the error.
It doesn't matter what tune I try, it's a fail. Reloaded/Ghosted my laptop, no change.
Tried to resync, and that gives the same basic error:

    resync.jpg

v5 works, and it'll resync. My main problem with 5 is it makes mistakes too easily. Every new window pushes the previous to the back (first pix below). If I want more than one thing open, which is pretty much always, I have to have them all at the edges so I can pull then fwd again. Because some programmer thought it would be a good idea to put the window you're obviously using, in the background where you can't access it. So this hanging out the sides is the work around for their mistake.
The problem with v5 is you click the wrong spot on those windows to bring then fwd and it'll change the data (bottom pix). This is a really bad flaw.
Also, when I move my mouse over a 2D map it sometimes changes the data because touchpads are not precision, which has been an issue since touchpads were invented. Maybe the programmer never used one, so this is an fyi.
While I've bitching; the lines of the 2D maps in v5 are too fat, I can't tell wth is going on in there. v4 wasn't great, but an improvement would be to make it easier to discern the data, not harder. Then in beta they went a step further and made the text harder to read as well. Note to programmer; sometimes we're in our cars, in the sun, and it's not easy to see the screen. Make the product better, not worse... As-is it feels like Microsoft when they came out with Vista. Or any time they forced a new OS on us that was not an improvement. If you want to screw up the program, then let us continue using the old one if we want.

Maybe you know something I don't Mech, but touching those ends in disaster for me. So much so that I need to recover the Editors settings with a good backup I have saved

i think all he is saying (with the pic) is that if you click on cascade you can then grab and arrange the windows however you would like

    works for me

hard to imagine it ending in disaster

It completely ruins all the windows sizes. Much worse than having to dig them out from behind.

@chevota - What vehicle were you trying to read with 4.10? What device (MPVI1/2/2+) were you reading with? I don't want to speculate because I'm still using 4.0.x using an MPVI2 to read older GM vehicles with no issues.

Yep, this is exactly what happened to me. Was FORCED to update software and upgrade firmware to be able to use MY device that I PAID for. Pretty pissed off about it to be honest. I did NOT want to update, but HpTuners shady business practice is going to force you. At this point I will not recommend HpTuners to anyone, and I will no longer support this company, or spend any of my hard earned dollars on their product. Good luck to the rest of you.

Editor version 4.10.7, which I've used since Feb '22

The main reason I posted was to see of others had the same issue. I figured a bunch of people were using v4 and it would be a big stink, yet I see no chatter. So then I thought maybe it's just me, which is why I reloaded my laptop, then, finally, started this thread.
Fyi I tried it on a bunch of other peoples tunes, all a fail until I came to the two oldest ones I have, which are for 2008 and 2010 cars. It opened those!! It seems on those two cars HP couldn't make the fuel richer like it can on all the newer ones. So maybe this is an emissions thing and they're forcing us to use v5 because v4 worked without taking that VERY painful smog class to unlock fuel.

danmw; might want to check and see if you are locked out your fuel now w/ v5

Fyi the first pix below is how I want it when I use it. You know, so I can actually see the data...
Pix 2 & 3 are what I get if I use the Vert & Horz options Mech suggested. I were to use either of those examples I'd to need to resize each window to be functional. So it's much worse, imo, than the hassle mentioned in post 4.
Horz/Vert also changes the memory settings for those windows, including the main window. So even if I could see my data and used it like that, it's pre-hozed for next time. Not a big deal since I made a script long ago to instantly fix problems like this, but there's still zero point in hozing it up in the first place because there is not a single scenario where it's better than what I've been doing.

    3.jpg

There has also never been a scenario where I opened a window and wished the existing open window(s) would vanish. Every single time I want both/all to be displayed like the first pix. If I want something to go away, I close it. It looks like HP was made with Labview? and I can't imagine there is not a way to lock the main window to the background. If there's a reason they don't want to lock it to the back, then I wish they'd give us a menu option to lock it.

If they killed v4 because of the smog thing then maybe they could mod v4 to require the ParameterAccess smog file that v5 uses? Maybe that's too much work, but probably easier than un-Fing v5. I imagine either option would be like asking my corporate office to stop making my job more complicated every year. I'm sure many here can relate.
Not than I can comprehend the need for the smog training to be so painful, but I can only assume it was forced by the EPA, who also put a minimum time requirement on it. Government agencies can't comprehend that has the opposite effect on learning and retention. It is of course all about the EPA checking a box that says "We require minutes of training annually" so it looks like they're "doing something" to combat tuning. I bet my theory is spot on.

I also hate updates for stable stuff. My dynojet will flat out not open some days unless you do an update first. Which is so dumb.. my dyno is almost 20 years old now. It can run just fine on the software they sent back then.

    I'm still running Office 2000.

So me where they made it better in 23 years! Just senseless fluff updates and $$.

Mustang dyno gives a message "may take awhile do not update during business hours" or something to the sort.

I'm answering issues with 4.10.x in 2 different threads so I use 4.8.7 to sync a MPVI2 & a MPVI2+ but use older 4.0.x and 4.2.x software to tune older cards (almost exclusively GM). I would guess the issue is somewhere along the line 4.10 had a firmware update that created issues but that's a guess as I don't use it on either device and use 5.0.4 or latest beta on my MPVI3 that I need to tune newer vehicles since I don't want to use the newer software on older vehicles which haven't needed updated VCM changes for a long time.

4.8.7 would never sync my 2+. I usually sync with 4.12 or 5.xx.
