Surging idle when coming to a stop after cam change and tune

Hello everyone, just looking for some advice. Deleted DOD, installed cam, longtube headers, CAI and no cats. Had car tuned but it surges when coming to a stop, it's scary in traffic. Oh yeah, installed 2800 triple disc converter.

Tuner told me I needed a higher stall converter? Any advice appreciated.

Surging won't be due to a higher stall. Please post the tune if you want help. What cam?

Hello, thanks for quick response. i attached the file. Is there a better way to do this? The tuner told I NEEDED a higher stall due to the cam profile which is: Cam Motion 603 intake/596 exhaust, 222 duration intake/236 duration exhaust, 108 centerline intake/115 centerline exhaust, lobe separation 111.5 Thanks for any assistance.

You posted a log (*.hpl). For the best help you need to post the tune (*.hpt) also.

"Tuner" doesn't know what he's talking about or doing. You could make that cam work with a stock torque converter. Wouldn't be ideal but it can be done.

Most like cause of the surge on decel is the toon ain't very good based on tooner's comments about the stall.

Yes there is a better way to do this! Always be sure to attach BOTH the tune file and the log file. You only attached the log file. Also be sure to list all your relevant mods.

Who spec'd the converter for the cam? If a converter company (CircleD, FTI, etc) or the cam company (Cam Motion) spec'd it then I would trust their judgement over the tuner who is fighting the surging issue. I am no expert, but a 2800 stall should be just fine with a 222/236 cam.

It's gonna be a combination of things causing it. BRAF is most likely too low. The VVE is probably untouched. It's "MAF only". Chances are the idle PIDs have been screwed with trying to fix the surge, which will only make it worse 99% of the time.

I am NOT a tuner! I bought the HP Tuner setup to do the dod delete on my wife's camaro due to mileage. Just decided it'd be crazy not put a decent cam in during the process. Then, I had to pay a tuner to get it set up right. It doesn't seem right? And I didn't know the difference between HPL and HPT files when I first posted. No negative feedback needed! I have found the original HPT file from the Dyno Tuner and have a new HPL file since I had to add mufflers to the car. It was way too loud for my wife to drive to work. Thanks for any guidance. This should help quite a bit...but dude your Hi and Lo octane spark tables are a big issue here. I am not going to mess with those, but they are likely contributing to the problem.

Yeah, what the T total "F" is up with those timing tables I think somebodies been playing with distributor's too much lately You're actually running on negative ignition timing at idle. Tune your VE in along with min air and go back to stock timing for now and go from there.

I appreciate all the responses but, I really don't know how to yune VE tables or anything else! I'm 58 and HP Tuners is a steep learning curve for me. I know how to turn off O2 sensors, VAT and simple things like that. I know HOW to change the VE tables but, I don't know what to change them to? And yeah, the floor boards are warm. Cringer modified the tune for me, before I could try that, the car started running poorly and set a TAC code. I was wondering if the bad tune could have caused and issue with throttle body OR if previously defective throttle body caused issues with idle/tune?

    Thanks again for all responses,
    John
