Thread: Jtec+/ 46re 1-2 WOT shift point

    Jtec+/ 46re 1-2 WOT shift point

JTEC+ / 46RE. I have a shift kit installed (fully built Martin Saine VB) and have adjusted the TV cable countless times, 1-2 WOT shift is 4600rpm, 2-3 WOT is 5800 rpm (perfect). I have read all the posts on shifts tuning (adjusted shift tables and shift points) and just don't quite understand everything. I want to try adjust my 1-2 WOT shift point (some where between 5300 and 5800, doesn't have to be spot on) but I need it spelled out for me (yes I need that type of help please). On the 1-2 shift Boost pressure (it's 80 psi now) raise it or lower it to increase the 1-2 WOT shift point? The 1-2 shift Hold pressure (it's 60 psi now) raise it or lower it to raise the 1-2 WOT shift point? Thank you for the help.

    whats up buddy

have not seen you in a while : )

its not in the tune... it is in the valve body

springs vs gov vs that fkn cable

a friend of mine owns a trans shop and freshened my trans and i could never get the shift point right again after he did

    was a freebie so i didn't bitch

finally gave up and got a full manual kit for it

I've been through the Trans and VB, Springs, Gov, and more. Nothing has changed on the shift points. It shifts nice and hard now, but I can't get the 1st gear shift at 5500 rpm or close to it. I've made it better with the tune, but I have ran out knowledge.

Anyone else? I'm sure JTEC for the diesel isn't much different on the trans side. FYI, I can do full manual shifts now if a choose and it will shift at the RPM that want when I move the gear shifter to the next gear.

JTEC? your issue is not in the controller...

what spings whos springs (how many springs) have you swapped in and out of that valve body?

how many times have you dropped the pan/vb?

what you want to do is doable but yer driveway is gonna be wrecked by the time you get it lol

there are no solenoid shift valves for 1 to 2 or 2 to 3 in that trans

Throttle valve kick down spring, 3-4 acc spring, gov plugs, manual valve, throttle valve, a couple o-ring pistons (don't remember the names), DNJ billet Gov plate and Borg Warner solenoid/sensors, internal mods to VB, TV lever lengthen 3/16". Mostly Sonnax, could have been a few Trans Go parts. New harness, 110ohm resister on the red wire (for higher lines pressure from the internal mods). Converter lockup is disabled in 3rd. I looked through all my stuff, I don't see where any 1-2 or 2-3 shift spring were changed. I also looked at Sonnax and Trans Go, I don't any 1-2 or 2-3 shift springs available.

Hard to stay how many times I have dropped the VB, I didn't do the mods all at once. I'd say 20+ times, About 35 minutes to drop VB after the fluid drain now. First time took forever.

I drop the VB in my garage, truck raised pretty high.

Shift valves and springs, PCM parameters, GOV circuit.

Is it as easy as pulling the VB and shimming the 1-2 shift valve spring? Retest. If I can get 1-2 and 2-3 the same, then I adjust the TV cable. Right now 2-3 is 5500-5600, right where I want it.

I ordered 1-2 shift valve springs. I looked at my spare VB, looks like a have to pull the VB out to swap out the shift valve spring. That's stinks, I was hoping I could just drop the pan.

now you need 2 more things:

    1) figure out the exact installed height of the spring at the moment it starts to shift

    2) build a digital low pressure spring tester (or find someone with one).

once you have both you can measure the spring that is in there now at that height

then you will have a starting point

    something to reference

    X = 4600
