I have never had that happen here. If i turn the factory cooling fans on in the scanner i can make more power starting the run 10-15* cooler. Most builds the first run never makes the most power unless it was drove in and immediately tied down. I would love to have a oil temp probe.

It's pretty easy to duplicate the results. Do back to back pulls starting with the engine cooler. Back to back you'll always make more power on your second pull, when the coolant temp is 10-15 degrees hotter, but your oil temp is almost the same. I see it over and over. Not like it's a one-off thing. These engines like a lot of heat in the chamber. Now obviously you can go too far with this but basically all engines make more power the hotter they get. Take nitro engines as an example. Those guys want their engines to leave at a pretty specific temp because the longer they run the more power they make to the point of changing how the car runs completely or even destroying themselves.

The example I gave in my previous post was probably the most drastic difference I've seen but it's the perfect example because of how drastic it was.

ok, so i tried to get this old lm2 i have for carbed vehicles to work with hptuners but i cant get hptuners to display what the lm2 shows. on top of that i dont know how to get it to work with the commanded afr being what it is. if any of that made any sense. also i thought i had stft disabled but i must have forgotten to do it before i did the log. so hopefully this log wasnt a total wash.

Most LS's seem to make the best power around 192 F water. Often I'll finish a car on the dyno in the afternoon but come back in the morning to make my final pass / best number. Even after waiting until the oil is up and water is 185ish or so..its often the 3-4 th back to back run that makes the best power.

If the build isn't on edge.. meaning it takes timing comfortably.. They will keep making more and more power 4-5 runs deep. I do have a pretty bad ass fan setup and cars tend to stay cooler than they do on the road.

Exactly what I see. Temps in the mid 190s -200 seem to be the sweet spot.

I tried this calibration. Nowhere near as fast as the as found calibration

I guess I’m just gonna get an aem wideband and figure this out on my end. The main issue I have with this calibration is the fact that they had the crankcase and passenger valve cover vented to atmosphere, so the tune had to have been performed with unmetered air thrown into the equation.

Sometimes more timing will sound better giving a false impression of more power. I had a crown vic 4.6 on the dyno, adding 2* sounded awesome during the pull but was down around 12hp.

I hear you. But it?s definitely not a sound better situation, it definitely is slower with less timing in it.

Then TDC needs to be verified.

Need to work on those fuel trims, add cyl airmass to the log, braf needs redone as well. Probably needs more but those are obvious. Spark looks much better, might have a little left over but you will need a loaded dyno to get any closer. Id say no more than 3-5hp at most left in the spark if it picks up anything.
