which unit for new tuner

so i own a 2009 cadillac cts4 with the 3.6l llt and i add mods when i can, and 1 mod i want is a tune. so my question is, should i splurge for a brand new mpvi3 unit or shop around for a cheap used mpvi1 or mpvi2/+. im 95% sure this is the only vehicle i will be tuning, but there might be a possibility for a ford or chevy. if i do get an older unit what am i gaining or not gaining vs the mpvi3, and what would be involved with trying to get the older unit to tune my car.

Buying used opens you up to potential fraud, device issues, etc.
