Im planning on going to Holley in my G8, mostly for engine safety. I really wish to retain as much functionality as I can, including AC, possibly cruise control, fan control, and fully functional Cluster, which shouldn't be a problem as its just ECT, RPM, and Speed (which is off wheel speed sensors in my application)
I do have a few questions for those more knowledgeable with the e38s.
1. What all sensors can be removed from a e38 before it throws reduced power mode on the DIC, or anything similar. traction control failure, abs, ect.. as I fear I wouldnt be able to get those to disapear using hptuners.
2. Will a e38 freak the dash out if I keep it controlling the throttle body, while the Holley simply gets a TPS reading from it. (my thinking is this might retain cruise control) This will likely cause issues with holding idle id fear though. I wish I could come up with a better idea.
3. If I decide towards the Holley controlling the DBW, I know that will throw a few DIC errors, I believe that was one condition for reduced engine power or something similar, is that fixable in hptuners? I know you can disable reporting on some but not all CELs.
4. Does the e38 need to see a cam position sensor? I wouldnt think so but I could also see a Cam crank correlation code being non removable in hptuners.
5. Do I have to worry about any canbus wiring in the main engine harness? I know I had to deal with some of that trying to get my manual swap to work properly, and it wasn't fun.
Thus far I think im going to start with just giving the stock ecu a split CKP signal, a new CTS sensor, the AC sensors, and the transmission sensors (tr6060). depin and remove all wiring for injectors, coils, map, maf, ect.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I cant find much on this for the e38s.
