Power loss w/Stock Hellat cam with VVT disabled/on Lockpin?
Just looking for opinions on the effect on WOT power with a -STOCK- cam in Hellcat running on lockpin (VVT disabled)...
A little horsepower loss, or significant amount of loss with power arcing down after X rpm?
Curious as to the effect of that grind vs. aftermarket cams that are ground to be locked out or on short limiters.
Thx

don't disable vvt
the stock wot cam tune purdy much holds the cam straigh up
(both ICL and ECL equal)
with a blower motor you do not gain power by retarding the cam like you do in a n/a application

So disabled VVT would hold at about 131* whereas VVT commands about 120*. Are you saying that the power difference between that 10* is not much?
Thx!

it might or might not make more torque in the mid range but think about it
the intake valve is opening sooner on the ex stroke so you are losing more of the charge there
the ex is opening sooner on the power stroke (which with these short cams might not hurt anything) but it is also starting to close sooner on the ex stroke so the charge will end up hotter and dirtier
why you want to lock a stock cam?
if you have the valve to piston clearance variable cam timing is a good thing

Definitely agree. Was just trying to see how significant the effects if a VVT solenoid went bad and it was just on Lockpin…. Thx again.

i believe the solenoid has two sides as in it is effectively two valves
if it were bad the cam would not be where it is being commanded to be and you would get a cam position DTC
it will turn on a light too
