    Newb question on a 24x 454

As mentioned, I'm really wet behind the ears. I've got all 3 Greg Banish books and I am actively reading. I'm following Goat Rope Garage on YouTube and actively watching. I know I have a ton to learn, but I want to get this truck fired up so I can at least move it around. I won't be doing any real work on the tune until the salt is gone from the roads. I've got a 99 Chevy K30 with a Vortec 454 that I just upgraded to 24x/CNP ignition along with cam, headers, exhaust, and PCM connectors pinned for an 0411 PCM and an LS firing order/injector assignment repined for the 454 firing order. The 0411 PCM which I have is from a 01 Sierra 4wd 5.3/4L60. I also have a "start file", as I'm calling it, that was emailed to me from another GMT400 guy who did the 24x on his 454 a few years ago with an LS firing order. What will be my best bet here? If I'm understanding correctly, I will need to license my PCM (2 credits), and If I want to directly flash the tune emailed to me to my 0411 I will also need to license that tune (2 more credits) since it is from a different VIN? Is that correct? If so, would I be better off doing segment swaps in the base tune file from my PCM, licensing, and flashing? I'm sure this is a silly question for most users here, but I have to start somewhere.

Not sure why someone is on here trying to promote another tuning solution/package, but whatever.

In HPT (sounds like that's what the OP is using) both files will need to be the same OS to do any segment swaps. You'd be better off going through the file and copying over tables one at a time.

I don’t have the ability to ban or suspend him or I would have already between that post and the PM’s I’ve gotten.

Bill or Keith will have to do it if that’s what they want to do

I don’t care about him posting other tuning solutions, it’s the being an asshole part that is the problem.

I am not 100% sure this will work, but on your customer page you should have a link to the HPtuners "tune translation" service. Generally they offer services for gen 3 computers for free. I think you may (not sure) be able to change the vin in the other file to match your pcm that you will need to license. IF that works, it may save some licensing credit expenditure.

edit-- And thank you to the mods for getting rid of that other guy that kept trolling the forum and was not even a customer.

I am a little fuzzy on identifying the OS because in the Tune Details there is 2 "Operating System" numbers. The number next to Operating System on the right is the same in both files (1273002). The number on the left side next to a different Operating Systems heading is not the same. I am going to see about trying the suggestion from gametech and if that doesn't work I'll begin copying tables.

I'll give this a try and see what happens.

Thank you to all for the responses! I didn't even see the original reply from MarcWolfe so it must have been deleted before I logged in this afternoon. I hope he finds the help he needs.

Don't look in the OS Tab. That is for OS modifications available for the GM OS number (custom OS modifications written bu HP Tuners). Look in Edit>Calibration Details to see your OS number along with all the other segment numbers.

Edit>Calibration Details is where I found the 2 OS numbers that I'm confused about.

They both show 12208322, don't they?

Sorry, this is the tune file I meant to show. It has 2 numbers to the left and one to the right. This is the file I was sent. The prior pics are from the PCM I'll be using. The number to the right is only 1273002. The number to the left is 12212156->1273002. I understand the second part of that number is the same, but I don't know what the first part is or what the symbols between the two signify. Also, somehow between switching back and forth through 3 different tune files I thought the OS was the same from the PCM I will be using to the tune file I would like to use. Call me an idiot
Anyway, the operating systems are not the same, so I'll be copying tables.
Also, I tried the tune translation. HP Tuners said I had to have at least one token in order to translate a tune, even though the cost is zero. So, I bought the minimum (10 tokens = $20) and tried the translation. It failed. But I am now the proud owner of 10 tokens.

Someone has applies a HPT Custom OS to the original GM OS. 12212156 is the original GM OS and someone has applied the 1273002. So now it is the Custom OS. The arrow symbol between the numbers in the first pic indicate that it has been changed.

The one that shows the two OS numbers is because it has had a custom operating system applied. The first number is the original OS, and the next number is the one that HPT used to designate that SD enhanced OS. It would be better if you used a file that did not have a custom OS applied, because I have no idea how many unseen background modifications may be involved in HPT's custom coding on those.

edit-- I see 2xls1 was quicker on the reply button

Also GM stock OS numbers are almost always 8 digit numbers. When you see a 7 digit OS number there is a good chance it is a Custom OS.
