    Gen III LS1/LS6 engine swap

We are in the process of swapping an bored and stroked LS1 engine into my GMC Sierra K1500 pickup truck. If anyone can offer any assistance it would be greatly appreciated. Here is what I know of the configuration so far. Cylinders are bored and Eagle stroked to 408CI, L92 heads, JE pistons, I'll post more as it becomes available.

We are wondering if we can utilize the stock computer in the truck or should we upgrade it as well. i am worried about all the sensors, dash gages, cruise control, tunability. We removed a Whipplecharged 5.7L Vortec so I am interested in a LOT of HP. I have been looking into the AutoTap FlashScan Commercial Scan & Tune but not sure if it will work with the stock computer. I am not opposed to swapping the computer just need some assistance.

I'll post some pictures of the engine build as soon as I can.

    Welcome to the forum Rick!

Our software has been used on many 1000+ hp vehicles utilizing the stock computer...the the introduction of Real Time Tuning its becoming even easier to achieve such high numbers.

Not all LS1 computers are made equal though...so definitly try to grab an 01+ computer & harness to do the swap if at all possible as they have the most parameters & best resolution throughout.

Obviously theres a ton of information about our product on these forums, but heres a rundown of the product we offer http://www.hptuners.com/products/vcmsuite.php

    Thanks Bill..

If I would have known about this forum I would have been here long ago!

Any thoughts as to whether we will be able to make the stock dash, cruise, etc. work with a newer computer?

    Thanks,

    Rick

    Wire harness company

Has anyone heard of the below company?

    http://www.currentperformance.com/

I am considering having them make me a custom wire harness for the truck, 4L60E, and engine listed above. I havent been able to find too many people that do this, probably why this company is 6+ weeks out for the creation of a harness.

When I did an LT1/4L60E swap in my 82 Jeep Scrambler I used a company called Howell Management Systems. They are located in Michigan and custom made the entire engine/trans harness and included a computer to run it along with their custom tune, everything ready to go,,,all the wires were tagged where they needed to be, very easy to install.
I believe the entire kit was around $800 or so but it's been a while. They also do LS1/LS2 stuff. Might be something to look into. Hope that helps, Larry.

The stock "black box" PCM in the 1996 truck wont support rev limits of over roughly 5800 rpm.

There's a post here somewhere about using the LS1 PCM to run the 5.7 Vortec. So it looks like your plan could happen. I'm sure the same bugs interfacing to the dash ect will apply to your application as well.

We've changed somewhat and are going to use a GEN III LS2 ECM from either a GTO or a Trailblazer which requires a separate TCM for the 4L60E trans in my truck. We are having a wire harness custom built by http://www.currentperformance.com and they see no issues with the dash integration. They are putting provisions into the harness for a Magna Volt to be added later if we run lean.

Anyone know of a water pump that will work with our configuration of engine configuration? We tried a GTO but the pulleys didn't line up. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated..
